Printer tray orientation and print size selection includes receiving printable media in a tray of a printer. Tray guide positions of the tray are measured. An overall list overall list of all sizes of printable media capable of fitting in the tray is created by comparing dimension ranges of the tray guide positions to a predetermined media size dimension list for the tray in multiple orientations. A prioritized list of printable media sizes capable of fitting in the tray for given tray guide positions is created. A preferred printable media size is selected based on the prioritized list.

An image forming apparatus includes a storing unit that stores information associated with a sheet type of a sheet and a sheet feed source, of a plurality of sheet feed sources, a selection unit that selects a sheet feed source from the plurality of sheet feeding sources based on at least a sheet type designated by a job and the stored information, and a feeding unit that feeds a sheet from the selected sheet feed source. The image forming apparatus also includes an image forming unit that forms an image on the sheet fed by the feeding unit, and a detector that detects a sheet type of the sheet fed from one of the plurality of sheet feed sources by the feeding unit. The storing unit stores the sheet type detected by the detector as the information indicating the sheet type of sheet stored in the sheet feeding source.
SHEET SUPPLY DEVICE
A sheet supply device in an embodiment includes a cassette, a housing, a drawing-in device, a roller, and a guide member. The housing supports the cassette to be movable in a first direction. The drawing-in device draws the cassette into the housing. The roller is supported by one of the cassette and the housing. The guide member is supported by another of the cassette and the housing. The guide member includes a groove having the first direction as a longitudinal direction and having a third direction orthogonal to the first direction and the second direction as a width direction. The roller is disposed in a first portion in the first direction of the groove in a state in which the cassette is housed in the housing.

A memory device stores a set of instructions, and at least one processor executes the instructions to function as a first holding unit to hold paper sizes and paper types set by a user in one-to-one correspondence with the plurality of paper feed sources, a second holding unit to hold the paper types detected by the detection unit in one-to-one correspondence with the plurality of paper feed sources, and a third holding unit to hold a paper size designated by the job and a paper type designated by the job or a condition related to setting of a paper type.

A sheet feeding sub tray is detachably attachable to a sheet loading stand of a sheet conveying device that includes a setting reference part on one end side of the sheet loading stand in a sheet width direction. The sheet feeding sub tray includes a small-size setting reference part disposed at a position closer to a center of the sheet loading stand in the sheet width direction than the setting reference part in a state in which the sheet feeding sub tray is installed to the sheet loading stand.

A sheet feeding cassette includes a main body, a lift plate, a pair of side cursors, and an auxiliary lift plate. The main body is configured to accommodate a sheet fed out in a predetermined sheet feeding direction. The lift plate is provided in the main body in a liftable manner, and has a sheet placement surface on which the sheet is placed. The pair of side cursors is configured to be moved in a width direction perpendicular to the sheet feeding direction and to come into contact with side edges of the sheet placed on the lift plate to align the sheet. The auxiliary lift plate is detachably attached to a notch portion which is formed in the lift plate so as to allow a moving of the side cursors.
