The present disclosure relates to a power source exchange system and a method for exchanging a power source. The power source exchange system comprises a compartment configured to removably receive a power source, a rotatable end effector, and a locking assembly. Rotation of the end effector can move the locking member from the locked position to the unlocked position. A load handling device is provided for lifting and moving containers arranged in stacks in a storage structure. The load handling device comprises the compartment, and a power source received into the compartment is configured to deliver electrical power to the load handling device. A storage and retrieval system is provided, comprising the storage structure, load handling device, and power source exchange system. Methods are provided of inserting a power source into the compartment of the power source exchange system, removing a power source, and exchanging a power source.

A materials handling vehicle including a battery receiving space, and a removable battery assembly, wherein: the battery receiving space includes opposing pairs of battery guide pins, each opposing pair arranged on opposite sides of the battery receiving space, and each opposing pair includes a latching pin and a guiding pin; the removable battery assembly includes a battery locking mechanism; the battery locking mechanism includes spring-loaded locking pins that are spring-biased in extended positions and are movable from the extended positions to respective retracted positions; the latching pin of each opposing pair of battery guide pins includes a recess forming a battery latch that is positioned to receive a leading portion of one of the spring-loaded locking pins in the extended position.

A battery replacement apparatus includes: a battery replacement station where removal of a first battery from the electrically powered vehicle and attachment of a second battery to the electrically powered vehicle are performed; a storage that stores the second battery, and a storage space that is provided at a position separate from the storage and stores the first battery.
