SUPERCRITICAL FLUID CHROMATOGRAPHY SYSTEM

Provided is a chiller and system that may be utilized in a supercritical fluid chromatography method, wherein a non-polar solvent may replace a portion or all of a polar solvent for the purpose of separating or extracting desired sample molecules from a combined sample/solvent stream. The system may reduce the amount of polar solvent necessary for chromatographic separation and/or extraction of desired samples. The system may incorporate a supercritical fluid chiller, a supercritical fluid pressure-equalizing vessel and a supercritical fluid cyclonic separator. The supercritical fluid chiller allows for efficient and consistent pumping of liquid-phase gases employing off-the-shelf HPLC pumps. The pressure equalizing vessel allows the use of off the shelf HPLC column cartridges. The system may further incorporate the use of one or more disposable cartridges containing silica gel or other suitable medium. The system may also utilize an open loop cooling circuit using fluids with a positive Joule-Thompson coefficient.

A low pressure liquid chromatographic cartridge has a tubular polymer container that receives a chromatographic packing material. The container has an outlet port located at its downstream end and container threads formed on its upstream end. A polymer cap, with an inlet port on an upstream end, screws onto the container threads. A flange depending from the cap mates with the lip of the container to form a fluid tight seal between the polymer cap and container suitable for use in low pressure liquid chromatography.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THE EQUILIBRATION OF A PACKED CHROMATOGRAPHY COLUMN

Disclosed is a method for equilibrating a chromatography column including the steps of (i) providing a mobile phase; and (ii) passing the mobile phase through a packed chromatography column; wherein the mobile phase includes two liquids, the proportions of which change as it is passed through the column. Also discussed are automated aspects of the method, as well as a system capable of performing such method.

MULTIPLE COLUMN CHROMATOGRAPHIC SYSTEM AND METHODS OF USE

A chromatographic apparatus includes two chromatographic columns configured to perform chromatography. The apparatus further includes a primary valve disposed upstream of the first chromatographic column and the second chromatographic column. The primary valve selectively switches between a first position in which the pump is in fluid communication with a first path that includes the first chromatographic column and a second position in which the pump is in fluid communication with a second path that includes the second chromatographic column. The apparatus also includes a first and a second sample injection port associated with said first and second columns, respectively, and at least one detector. The apparatus is configured such that flow from the column in the selected path goes to said at least one detector without passing through the other column.

SYNTHESIS AND APPLICATION OF LIGNIN-BASED CARBON MATERIALS

This application relates to the development and use of lignin-based carbon materials which can be used for energy storage and environmental applications. Included are methods of preparing microporous activated carbon having a controlled, often high surface area and a controlled often high mesopore ratio, and a method of preparing carbon dots, for example carbon quantum dots.

High-pressure fluid chromatography system using interior-to-exterior column pressure equalization

Provided is a high-pressure fluid chromatography system using interior-to-exterior column pressure equalization, and components comprising such a system, including a pressure equalizing vessel which allows for the use of an inner chromatography column that is only able to withstand an interior-to-exterior pressure differential of up to 200 psi.
