The system relates to a disk filter for effectively preventing scale formation in a water treatment process, and to a water treatment apparatus and method using the same. The disk filter includes a housing having a cylindrical shape, a raw water inlet formed at a predetermined position on the side surface of the housing, a raw water outlet formed at a central region in the bottom of the housing, a backwash water outlet formed at a central region in the top of the housing, a ceramic filter provided in a circular disk shape inside the housing, and a scale formation inhibitor loaded in a flow channel formed inside the ceramic filter, wherein raw water introduced via the raw water inlet passes through the ceramic filter and then through the flow channel filled with the scale formation inhibitor, and is then discharged via the raw water outlet.

CERAMIC HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE AND ITS PRODUCTION METHOD

A ceramic honeycomb structure comprising pluralities of honeycomb segments each having pluralities of longitudinally penetrating flow paths partitioned by porous cell walls and plugs formed in the end portions of the flow paths, and a bonding material layer boding the peripheral walls of the honeycomb segments, the bonding material layer comprising silicon carbide particles as aggregate and a bonding phase bonding the silicon carbide particles, the bonding phase comprising at least a cordierite phase and a spinel phase, the molar ratio M1 of the cordierite phase [=cordierite phase/(cordierite phase+spinel phase)] being 0.50 or more and less than 1.0, and the content of (cordierite phase+spinel phase) in the bonding phase being 50% or more by mass.

CERAMIC FILTER AND METHOD FOR FORMING THE FILTER

A filter element, useful for filtering molten metals and the like, is made from a precursor or template (10) having at least two layers (20). Each layer is assembled from three-dimensional geometric cages (22), joined in fixed relationship to each other: Some embodiments include a peripheral member (26) that encompasses the layer. In such cases, spacer members (28) can span the peripheral members to hold the layers in fixed spaced-apart relationship. In other embodiments, at least some of the cages in adjacent layers can be joined in fixed relationship, providing the spaced-apart relationship. The cages can be built from linear segments of a material joined in a pattern based on the edges of the geometric solid. The template may be formed by an automated technique, such as three-dimensional printing. If manufactured from a polymer, the precursor is coated with a ceramic slurry and calcined to provide the filter element.

COMPOSITION AND METHODS FOR MAKING GLASS CERAMIC POROUS STRUCTURES

Porous structures are made from compositions that include hollow glass bodies and an inorganic powder. The inorganic powder may act as a rigid frame member, a crystallization agent, or both, which reduces the shrinkage of the porous structures during firing. The porous structures made therefrom have an open porosity of greater than 70% and reduced shrinkage of less than 10% compared to the green structures prior to firing. Methods for firing the green structures made from the compositions are also disclosed, the firing methods including reducing a temperature ramping rate of the green structures during a crystallization temperature range of the glass of the hollow bodies.

A filter for a chromatography system includes a filter body having an exterior wall, a cavity, an interior wall surrounding the cavity and a channel extending between the exterior and interior walls. The channel passes a flow of a liquid from the cavity. The filter body is formed of a sintered metal oxide material and has a pore size that is less than a particle size to be filtered liquid. In some embodiments the filter body is formed of zirconium oxide or aluminum oxide. The filters reduce or eliminate the types of reactions that occur between conventional filter bodies and chromatographic solvents and samples. The filters can be used at different locations in a chromatography system to remove particles that may be present in sources of chromatographic solvents or introduced into the chromatographic system flow by chromatographic components, such as pumps, valves and other chromatographic system components.
