POROUS CERAMIC MATERIAL, FILTER, AND ARTICLES
The present disclosure relates to porous ceramic materials and porous ceramic articles, including honeycomb structure bodies and porous ceramic filters comprised of plugged honeycomb bodies. In various embodiments, a particulate filter is disclosed herein, such as suitable as a gasoline particulate filter (GPF) for use with a gasoline engine and treating its exhaust, and/or such as a diesel particulate filter (DPF) suitable for use with a diesel engine and treating its exhaust.
CERAMIC HONEYCOMB FILTER
A ceramic honeycomb filter has (a) cross section areas of intake flow paths being larger than those of discharge flow paths; (b) the intake and discharge flow paths having octagonal cross section shapes with four-fold rotation symmetry each obtained by cutting off four corners from a square; (c) the intake and discharge flow paths being alternately arranged in a first direction and a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, such that their opposing sides are parallel; (d) the opening ratio of the intake flow paths being 45-60%; (e) the number of the flow paths per cm.sup.2 being 30-60; (f) the thickness t1 of a cell wall between an intake flow path and a discharge flow path adjacent to that intake flow path being 0.150-0.260 mm; and (g) the thickness t2 of a cell wall between adjacent intake flow paths meeting 1.175<t2/t1<1.6.
EXHAUST PURIFICATION SYSTEM OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An exhaust purification system includes an LAF sensor provided in an exhaust pipe and generates a signal corresponding to an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas. An upstream catalytic converter is downstream of the LAF sensor and has a catalyst to purify the exhaust gas. An O2 sensor is downstream of the upstream catalytic converter, and generates a signal corresponding to the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas. A GPF is downstream of a the O2 sensor and purifies the exhaust gas. An ECU controls an air-fuel mixture in an engine using output signal KACT of the LAF sensor and an output signal VO2 of the O2 sensor such that the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas flowing into the GPF converges to a target value near the stoichiometric ratio. The GPF has a filter substrate and a downstream TWC supported by a partition of the filter substrate.
Filter
The present invention provides a filter comprising a base material and a catalytic substance provided within the base material, wherein the base material comprises a plurality of cells forming gas flow paths and having a gas inflow-side end portion and outflow-side end portion, and a plurality of porous partition walls defining said cells, the end portions of at least some of the cells being closed off, and the void occupancy of the catalytic substance within the pores of the partition walls is 10% or less.
POROUS CERAMIC FILTERS AND METHODS FOR MAKING THE SAME
Disclosed herein are filtration articles comprising a porous ceramic structure comprising a plurality of channels separated by a plurality of porous interior walls, and a nanomembrane disposed on at least a portion of a surface of the porous ceramic structure, wherein the nanomembrane comprises nanoparticles of at least one inorganic oxide, and wherein the nanoparticles are present in a concentration ranging from about 0.001 g/L to about 1 g/L based on the total volume of the porous ceramic structure. Methods for making such filtration articles and methods for filtering a particulate from a fluid using such filtration articles are also disclosed herein.
INORGANIC MEMBRANE FILTRATION ARTICLES AND METHODS THEREOF
An inorganic membrane filtration article and methods for making the same. The membrane filtration article includes a sintered flow-through ceramic honeycomb with a plurality of partition walls defining a plurality of open channels from an inlet end of the honeycomb to an outlet end of the honeycomb. The honeycomb is formed from a cordierite composition with low-sodium and/or low-potassium content for enhanced filtration performance.
ASSEMBLED FILTERS FOR THE FILTRATION OF LIQUIDS
A membrane filter includes a plurality of honeycomb ceramic filtering elements, each element including a plurality of parallel ducts separated by walls and open on a face for introduction of the liquid to be filtered, an interstitial volume between the filtering elements, a filtration membrane positioned on the inner surface of the walls of the ducts, wherein the filtering elements are joined together by a curable material that forms after curing a sleeve in the form of a single part joining together, by sealing, all of the filtering elements separated the interstitial volume, the sleeve having a thickness e between 1% and 10% of the length of the filter, and the curable material being present in the open porosity and through the entire thickness of each porous wall forming the elements, over a minimum non-zero height h.
Porous Material
The present invention relates to a porous material, the pores of the porous material are uniformly distributed. The uniform distribution of the pores means that the pores are evenly distributed at any unit-level volume of the porous material. The elastic modulus of the porous material is reduced by 10-99% compared to that of the raw material used to make the porous material. This kind of porous material ensures the uniformity of its various properties. It is a porous material with excellent performance and quality. Its uniformity also ensures that its elastic modulus can be effectively reduced to meet multiple purposes.
