The illustrative method also includes generating a vapor from the aerosol by applying a negative pressure to the aerosol. The illustrative method further includes separating at least one type of contaminant particle from the vapor and converting the vapor into a liquid.

The embodiments of this disclosure are related to a water treatment system comprising a flotation tank, a shell-tube inlet conduit connected to the flotation tank and comprising a shell configured to supply a gas and at least one tube configured to supply untreated water, wherein each of the shell and the tube has a first part exposed to an outside of the flotation tank and a second part extending into the flotation tank, a microbubble forming means positioned on or adjacent to the second part of the shell, and a treated water outlet connected to the flotation tank and configured to allow treated water separated from solids in the flotation tank to be discharged therethrough.

A liquid sorbent system includes a membrane contactor and a bubbler. The membrane contactor is configured to absorb one or more contaminants into or desorb one or more contaminants from a liquid sorbent. The membrane contactor includes a contactor housing and one or more hollow fiber membranes positioned in the contactor housing. The contactor housing is configured to receive the liquid sorbent at a liquid inlet and discharge liquid sorbent at a liquid outlet. The bubbler is configured to generate bubbles in the liquid sorbent upstream of the liquid outlet.

The holding space has an airflow passage including the first opening and the second opening, and the movable portions close the first opening and the second opening in a steady state and open the first opening and the second opening when the holding space is opened.

A method and a system for sequestering carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) while producing freshwater are provided. An exemplary method includes producing saline water from a saline aquifer, desalinating at least a portion of the saline water, producing freshwater and waste brine, mixing waste CO.sub.2 with the waste brine forming a brine/CO.sub.2 mixture, and injecting the brine/CO.sub.2 mixture into the saline aquifer.
