Infant formula with special lipid architecture for improving postnatal growth of infants born by Caesarean section
The present invention relates to formulae for infants born via Caesarean section for improving the postnatal growth trajectory or body development.
Tannin-containing gastrointestinal formulations and methods of use
Tannin-containing compositions and methods of using same to enhance or maintain immune function during simplified nutrition feeding. Pharmaceutical compositions, including enteral nutrition compositions, are provided. The compositions comprise such tannins as proanthocyanidins and/or hydrolysable tannins. Administering the tannins to the gastrointestinal tract of a subject receiving simplified nutrition, such as with enteral nutrition therapy or parenteral nutrition therapy, attenuates or prevents deleterious effects on the gastrointestinal immune system that would otherwise occur with the simplified nutrition.

RETINAL BIOAVAILBILITY OF SYNTHETIC VERY-LONG-CHAIN POLYUNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS
The rare non-dietary very-long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (VLC-PUFAs) uniquely found in retina and a few other tissues play a clinically significant role in retinal degeneration and development, but their physiological and interventional research has been hampered by scarcity of pure VLC-PUFAs. Disclosed herein are methods of making fatty acids, including VLC-PUFAs, and methods of using these fatty acids in, for example, treating eye disorders and supplementing the diet of a female subject who is pregnant, desiring to become pregnant, or lactating. Also disclosed are compositions containing fatty acids and methods of making and using same. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present invention.
PROTEIN COMPOSITIONS PRODUCED FROM HEMP PLANT MATERIALS
Disclosed are plant protein compositions prepared from hemp plant material. Hemp seeds are deconstructed and separated into heavy protein-rich fractions and light oil-rich fractions. The deconstruction processes avoid the use of organic solvents and temperatures above 60° C. The separated fractions are then selectively processed to produce selected plant protein containing compositions comprising from about 30% (w/w) to about 95% hemp protein, from about 5% (w/w) and to about 60% (w/w) plant oil. The plant protein compositions from hemp plants are suitable for use as ingredients in nutritional formulations.

Pharmaceutical compositions having high drug loadings of medium chain triglycerides and methods related thereto
This invention relates to high drug load compositions of medium chain triglycerides (MCT), and to methods for treatment with such compositions at amounts effective to elevate ketone body concentrations so as to treat conditions associated with reduced neuronal metabolism, for example Alzheimer's disease.
METHODS FOR PRODUCTION OF ANIMAL-FREE HONEY AND MILK SUBSTITUTES
Royal jelly honey produced by nurse bees, honey and milk has great values in human health and/or beauty. This invention aims to produce royal jelly honey substitute, honey substitute, animal free milk without the need for bees or cows or goats. First, recombinant major royal jelly proteins (MRJPs), defensin-1, and milk proteins are produced by microbes (such as bacteria, yeasts, or fungi) using precision fermentation. The MRJPs, defensin-1 or milk proteins are then formulated with vitamins, water, minerals, fats, salt and/or amino acids to produce a bee-free royal jelly honey substitute, bee-free honey substitute or animal free milk. MRJPs can also be formulated with vitamins, water, minerals, fats, salt, amino acids and recombinant milk proteins to produce animal-free milk or milk substitutes with supplemental MRJPs. Plant-based milks can also be supplemented with MRJPs and recombinant milk proteins.

INSULIN SECRETION-PROMOTING AGENT AND BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL IMPROVER USING SAME, DIABETES IMPROVER, AND FOOD
Provided is an insulin secretion-promoting agent comprising, as an active ingredient, a triglyceride represented by the following formula (I):
##STR00001##
wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 each denotes a saturated fatty acid residue, at least one of which is a pentadecanoic acid residue. An insulin secretion-promoting action of the pentadecanoic acid triglyceride at the time of elevated blood glucose level is discovered, and pharmaceuticals and health foods for improving blood glucose level and diabetes are provided using this triglyceride.
