PROCESS FOR PRODUCING NITRILE RUBBERS USING RUTHENIUM COMPLEX CATALYSTS
The present invention relates to a process for preparing nitrile rubbers having reduced molecular weight by metathesis of a first nitrile rubber in the presence of specific ruthenium complex catalysts that have particular N-heterocyclic carbene ligands.
METAL OXIDE-SUPPORTED EARTH-ABUNDANT METAL CATALYSTS FOR HIGHLY EFFICIENT ORGANIC TRANSFORMATIONS
Surface hydroxyl groups on porous and nonporous metal oxides, such as silica gel and alumina, were metalated with catalyst precursors, such as complexes of earth abundant metals (e.g., Fe, Co, Cr, Ni, Cu, Mn and Mg). The metalated metal oxide catalysts provide a versatile family of recyclable and reusable single-site solid catalysts for catalyzing a variety of organic transformations. The catalysts can also be integrated into a flow reactor or a supercritical fluid reactor.
Cluster compounds containing [Mn3SrO4] and [Mn4SrO4] core structures, preparation method and application thereof
[Mn.sub.3SrO.sub.4] cluster compounds are synthesized in a single step from raw materials consisting of simple and inexpensive Mn.sup.2+, Sr.sup.2+ inorganic compounds and carboxylic acids by using permanganate anion as oxidant. This step can be followed by the synthesis of asymmetric biomimetic water splitting catalyst [Mn.sub.4SrO.sub.4] cluster compounds in the presence of water. The [Mn.sub.4SrO.sub.4] cluster compound can catalyze the splitting of water in the presence of an oxidant to release oxygen gas. The neutral [Mn.sub.3SrO.sub.4](R.sub.1CO.sub.2)6(R.sub.1CO.sub.2H).sub.3 cluster compound can serve as precursors for the synthesis of biomimetic water splitting catalysts, and can be utilized in the synthesis of different types of biomimetic water splitting catalysts. [Mn.sub.4SrO.sub.4](R.sub.1CO.sub.2).sub.8(L.sub.1)(L.sub.2)(L.sub.3)(L.sub.4) cluster compounds can serve as artificial water splitting catalysts, can be utilized on the surface of an electrode or in the catalyzed splitting of water driven by an anoxidant.
Preparation of amino acids and amino acid derivatives
The invention relates to a method for synthesizing amino acids or amino acid derivatives involving cross metathesis of functionalized olefins and a tandem amination-reduction process. Amino acids and amino acid derivatives present many interesting physical and chemical properties finding many uses in the automotive, fuel, electronic, and textile industries.

Directed Beta-C(sp3)–H Iodination and Arylation of Ketones
This invention discloses the first example of palladium(II)-catalyzed -C(sp.sup.3)-H iodination or arylation of a wide range of ketones by using a commercially available aminooxyacetic acid auxiliary. This L, X-type directing group overcomes the limitation of the transient directing group approach for -C(sp.sup.3)-H functionalization of ketones. Practical advantages of this method include simple installation of the auxiliary without chromatography, exceptional tolerance of a-functional groups, double bonds and triple bonds and rapid access to diverse sterically hindered quaternary centers.
