CONTINUOUS TREATMENT WITH PLASMA
The present invention relates to a continuous method for producing products with molecules or macromolecules attached thereto and apparatus for carrying out this method. The method comprises the steps of: (a) placing the object on or in the proximity of a surface; (b) controlling the electrical potential of the surface with respect to its surroundings; (c) activating the object by exposing it to an electrical discharge; (d) contacting the object with the molecule or macromolecule to be attached. Such macromolecules include bacteriophage. Thus products of methods of the invention are for prevention and amelioration of bacterial contamination of the product of methods of the invention or materials in contact with said products.
LIQUID PLASMA DISCHARGE DEVICE AND METHOD FOR BIODIESEL SYNTHESIS USING SAME
A process comprises feeding a stream of reactant compounds to a reactor and discharging a liquid plasma into the reactant stream in the reactor, wherein the plasma initiates or accelerates a reaction of the reactant compounds to form a product composition. The reactor can comprise one or more chambers, a high-voltage electrode positioned at a first portion of the one or more chambers, a ground electrode positioned at a second portion of the one or more chambers, and a dielectric plate between the ground electrode and the high-voltage electrode that comprises openings through which the reactant stream can pass from the first portion to the second portion or from the second portion to the first portion. Discharging the plasma can include supplying electrical power to the high-voltage electrode such that plasma is discharged where the reactant stream flows through the openings.
PROCESS TO CONDUCT AN ENDOTHERMIC CATALYTIC CRACKING REACTION IN A FLUIDIZED BED REACTOR
The disclosure relates to a process to perform a catalytic cracking reaction of hydrocarbons having at least four carbons, said process comprising the steps of providing a fluidized bed reactor comprising at least two electrodes and a bed comprising particles, wherein the particles are put in a fluidized state to obtain a fluidized bed; heating said bed to a temperature between 500° C. and 850° C. by passing an electric current through the fluidized bed to conduct the reaction. The process is remarkable in that the particles of the bed comprise electrically conductive particles and particles of a catalytic composition, wherein at least 10 wt. % of the particles are electrically conductive particles and have a resistivity from 0.001 to 500 Ohm.cm at 500° C. and in that the step of heating the fluidized bed is performed by passing an electric current through the fluidized bed.
PROCESS TO CONDUCT ENDOTHERMIC DIRECT PYROLYSIS OF METHANE IN A FLUIDIZED BED REACTOR
The disclosure relates to a process to perform an endothermic methane pyrolysis reaction, said process comprising the steps of providing at least one fluidized bed reactor comprising at least two electrodes; and a bed comprising particles, wherein the particles are put in a fluidized state by passing upwardly through the said bed a fluid stream, to obtain a fluidized bed; heating the fluidized bed to a temperature ranging from 500° C. to 1200° C. to conduct the endothermic methane pyrolysis reaction; wherein the particles of the bed comprise electrically conductive particles and particles of a catalytic composition; wherein at least 10 wt. % of the particles are electrically conductive particles and have a resistivity ranging from 0.001 Ohm.Math.cm to 500 Ohm.Math.cm at 800° C. and wherein the step of heating the fluidized bed is performed by passing an electric current through the fluidized bed.

A device and method for forming NO-containing gas flow to treat a biological object is disclosed. The device may include an anode, a cathode, an interelectrode area between the cathode and the anode, an NO-containing gas flow outlet channel leading from the interelectrode area to a nozzle for directing and releasing the NO-containing gas flow from the device and a mechanism to adjust a relative position between the anode and the cathode to produce varying concentrations of NO. In addition, the device may include one or more features for interconnecting the various components to ensure proper and consistent assembly of the device.

Embodiments of the subject invention relate to a small modular self-contained surface plasma device for decontamination of air and surfaces within enclosed volumes. Embodiments of the subject invention relate to a method and apparatus using the technical process of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) surface plasma generation from ambient atmosphere for decontamination of air and surfaces within enclosed volumes. The primary application mode is for preservation of perishable commodities within industrial shipping containers through reduction of surface spoilage organisms and destruction of evolved gaseous ethylene that causes premature ripening. Additional implementations include deployment for oxidation of surfaces and/or container atmospheres in applications to diminish or eradicate pesticides, toxins, chemical residues, and other natural or introduced contaminants. Other embodiments envisioned include incorporation of device capabilities and or ancillary modules for feedback input (e.g. ozone sensor(s) to maintain steady state levels, self-tuning circuitry to adjust operating frequency), communication (e.g. among modules, RFID data loggers, Wi-Fi output), and programing (e.g. user input of container volume, transit time, ozone level, etc.).
