Infeed systems for chippers or grinders, and chippers and grinders having same

An infeed system of a chipper or grinder includes a feed roller, a motor for rotating the roller, a hydraulic cylinder for adjusting an amount of crush force applied by the roller, a sensor, and a controller in data communication with the sensor and the cylinder. In operation, the controller determines whether the material is being effectively moved to the processing portion and whether the amount of crush force is at a maximum or lowest setting. The controller causes the cylinder to: (a) decrease the amount of crush force when the material is being effectively moved to the processing portion and the amount of crush force applied is not at the lowest setting; and (b) increase the amount of crush force when the material is not being effectively moved to the processing portion and the amount of crush force is not at the maximum setting.

Portable grinding/shredding/chipping system having manipulable track drive and other improvements

A portable grinding/shredding/chipping system with a drive track assembly which is manipulatable to facilitate altering the orientation of the portable grinding/shredding/chipping system. This arrangement results in improved loading and processing, of both long and short materials, as well as facilitates connection of a transport dolly and a transport truck/tractor without requiring any additional lifting mechanism. A pivotable housing provides greater access to the rotor and has an over-center arrangement which prevents the pivotable housing from inadvertently moving or pivoting back into engagement with the rotor. The portable grinding/shredding/chipping system is provided with a belt drive assembly which facilitates modification of the rotational speed of the rotor by merely replacing a sheave of the belt drive assembly. Lastly, both head and tail pulleys are driven by a respective motor so that a catinary of the discharge conveyor is radiussed which shortens an axial length of the system.

MATERIAL REDUCTION MACHINE WITH DYNAMIC INFEED CONTROL
20210229108 · 2021-07-29 ·

A material reduction machine includes a prime mover driving a cutting mechanism. An infeed portion engages a piece of material to feed it forward to the cutting mechanism. A sensor senses a machine load parameter via the cutting mechanism and/or prime mover and reports a signal to a controller operatively coupled to the infeed portion to control sequential cutting cycles on the piece of material. The controller utilizes a stored first stop threshold value for stopping a first cutting cycle and continues monitoring the signal as machine load increases momentarily after reaching the first stop threshold. The controller determines and adopts a second stop threshold value based on observation of the machine load parameter indicative of maximum load during the continued monitoring following attainment of the first stop threshold, and further being based on a stored correction factor. The second stop threshold value is used for a second cutting cycle.

In one embodiment containers are also handled to at least partly be provided in shredded form in the outlet arrangement (7), wherein said cutting arrangement (4, 6) comprises a first cutting unit (4) arranged to cut a container (9) into a plurality of longitudinal, parallel stripes and preferably a second cutting unit (6) arranged to cut transversally in relation to said first cutting unit (4), whereby said longish strips will be cut into a plurality of shredded pieces.

MILL BOX FOR A HORIZONTAL GRINDER

A material reducing machine includes a rotary reducing drum that is rotatable about an axis of rotation and defines a reducing boundary that extends at least partially around the axis of rotation. The material reducing machine includes an infeed conveyor for transporting material to a front portion of the rotary reducing drum and defines a conveyor plane. The material reducing machine includes a mill box at least partially surrounding the rotary reducing drum and including a mill box lid mounted generally above the rotary reducing drum. The mill box lid has an inlet edge positioned above a rear portion of the rotary reducing drum and an outlet edge positioned above the front portion of the rotary reducing drum. The mill box includes an infeed opening that is configured to receive material from a feed table and has an upper opening defined by the outlet edge of the mill box lid.

Horizontal grinding machine with engine fuel consumption control

A horizontal grinding machine includes a frame, a feed hopper that receives material to be processed, and a feed conveyor that moves material to be processed in a processing direction. A grinding cylinder rotates about a generally horizontal grinding axis. A feed roller assembly is mounted on the frame at the rear end of the feed hopper and in front of the grinding cylinder. The feed roller assembly includes a feed roller that rotates about a generally horizontal axis in a first direction that urges the material towards the grinding cylinder and a second direction that urges the material away from the grinding cylinder. A controller is operatively connected to the feed roller and to the feed conveyor and controls the rotational speed of the feed roller and the speed of the feed conveyor to obtain a predetermined ratio of feed roller rotational speed to feed conveyor speed.
