Method for producing a smooth aerodynamic surface of an aircraft component
A method for producing a smooth aerodynamic surface of an aircraft component is depicted and described. The method includes: provision of an aircraft component with an aerodynamic surface, which has an uneven section, introduction of a liquid or viscous, uncured sealing compound into the uneven section, introduction of a solid, precured sealing body into the uneven section in such a way that the sealing body presses into the sealing compound until the sealing compound at least partially surrounds the sealing body, curing of the sealing compound.
COOLING SUPPORT CUSHION AND RELATED METHODS
A cooling support cushion and method of forming same is provided. In particular, the present cooling support cushions and methods of producing the same make use of a plurality of surface coatings to a base layer to provide an extended cooling effect. The surface coating may be mixed and applied or may be applied as separated layers.
Analytic substrate coating apparatus and method
An apparatus and method for producing a coated analytic substrate using a compact and portable automated instrument located in the laboratory setting at the point of use which can consistently produce one or a plurality of coated analytic substrates on demand for using the analytic substrate immediately after coating, preferably without a step of rinsing the coated analytic substrate before use. The apparatus preferably uses applicator cartridges having a reservoir containing the coating compositions used to form the coatings. Preferably the cartridges are removable and interchangeable to facilitate the production of individual analytic substrates having different coatings or different coating patterns. These coated analytic substrates have superior specimen adhesion characteristics due to the improved quality of the coatings applied by the coating apparatus and due to the quickness with which the coated analytic substrates can be used in the lab after production.
Methods of forming graphene-coated diamond particles and polycrystalline compacts
Coated diamond particles have solid diamond cores and at least one graphene layer. Methods of forming coated diamond particles include coating diamond particles with a charged species and coating the diamond particles with a graphene layer. A composition includes a substance and a plurality of coated diamond particles dispersed within the substance. An intermediate structure includes a hard polycrystalline material comprising a first plurality of diamond particles and a second plurality of diamond particles. The first plurality of diamond particles and the second plurality of diamond particles are interspersed. A method of forming a polycrystalline compact includes catalyzing the formation of inter-granular bonds between adjacent particles of a plurality of diamond particles having at least one graphene layer.
OPTICAL ELEMENTS AND METHOD FOR FABRICATING THE SAME
A method for fabricating an optical element is provided. The fabrication method includes the following steps. A substrate is provided. A plurality of metal grids are formed on the substrate. A first organic layer is formed on the substrate between the plurality of metal grids. A second organic layer is formed on the first organic layer and the plurality of metal grids. The second organic layer and the first organic layer are etched to leave the plurality of metal grids and a plurality of patterned second organic layers on the plurality of metal grids. An optical element fabricated by the method is also provided.
COMPONENTS AND METHODS FOR USE IN ELECTRO-OPTIC DISPLAYS
A front plane laminate useful in the manufacture of electro-optic displays comprises, in order, a light-transmissive electrically-conductive layer, a layer of an electro-optic medium in electrical contact with the electrically-conductive layer, an adhesive layer and a release sheet. This front plane laminate can be prepared as a continuous web, cut to size, the release sheet removed and the laminate laminated to a backplane to form a display. Methods for providing conductive vias through the electro-optic medium and for testing the front plane laminate are also described.
Films, intermediate structures, and methods for forming hardfacing
A multi-layer film for use in forming a layer of hardfacing on a surface of a tool includes a first layer and a second layer covering at least a portion of a surface of the first layer. The layers each include a polymer material and a plurality of particles dispersed throughout the polymer material. An intermediate structure includes a body of an earth-boring tool, a first material layer disposed over a surface of the body, and a second material layer disposed over the first material layer. A method of applying hardfacing includes providing a first material layer on a surface of a body of an earth-boring tool, providing a second material layer adjacent the first material layer, heating the body and removing the polymer material from the body of the earth-boring tool, and heating the body of the earth-boring tool to a higher temperature to form a layer of hardfacing material.
