Hierarchical control system for optimal management of energy resources
Methods and systems are provided for optimizing energy management of an energy resource site. For instance, a hierarchical energy management system can provide optimized management of energy resource sites with large numbers of energy resources. In particular, the hierarchical energy management system can effectively control energy resources by allocating functionality using different tiers. For instance, one or more energy resources devices can comprise the lowest tier of the hierarchical energy management system. The next tier of the hierarchical energy management system can comprise one or more controllers that can manage the energy resource devices. The next tier of the hierarchical energy management system, a resource manager, generally manages the set of controllers.
Microgrid configuration optimization for battery agnostic systems
A microgrid controller may measure a group state-of-charge (SOC) of a group of energy storage systems (ESSs), calculate a total real power demanded by a plurality of loads, determine an available real power for a group of renewable-energy-based (REB) energy resource systems, determine whether the available real power is greater than a sum of the total real power and an ESS parasitic consumption of the group of ESSs, and, based on the available real power being greater than the sum, generate first control signals for turning off a group of fuel-based (FB) energy resource systems or for maintaining the group of FB energy resource systems in an off-state, or, based on the available real power being less than or equal to the sum, generate second control signals for turning on the group of FB energy resource systems or for maintaining the group of FB energy resource systems in an on-state.
Resource site load determination based on renewable power predictions
A computer-implemented method may include analyzing a resource site based on a plurality of data inputs associated with operation of the resource site. The method may include predicting availability of power for the resource site from a renewable power generation source based on data from the data inputs and determining an operational target for the resource site for a determined future time period, where the operational target may include a power consumption target determined based on the predicted availability of power for the resource site from a renewable power generation source during the determined future time period. The computer-implemented method may further include performing real-time controls of power consumption at the resource site to meet the determined power consumption target for the determined future time period, where the real-time controls may include at least temporarily curtailing or modifying power usage of the resource site during the determined future time period.
SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR ALLOCATING POWER TO LOADS BASED ON LOAD CLASSIFICATIONS
Systems and methods are provided for allocating and providing power to electric loads based on load classification information. A power system, such as a local electrical utility, may receive load demand requests from customers or loads wanting to consume power, and the system may allocate power to the loads based on load classifications of each of the loads. The system may then communicate the power allocations to the loads, and the loads may then consume power based on the power allocated to each of the loads. These improvements may be used to, for example, reduce the likelihood or frequency of demand response events in which power demand exceeds supply since the system may limit the total amount of power that is allocated at any given time.
Proactive Sequential Phase Swapping Scheduling for Power Distribution Systems with a Finite Horizon
A phase swapping system is provided for swapping phases in a power distribution system. The system includes an interface circuitry configured to receive, from sensors arranged at buses in the power distribution system, real-time states at current time step, wherein each of the real-time states are associated with a complex power flowing from an upstream bus to a downstream bus, one or more processors and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the phase swapping system to perform steps of determining a multi-step phase swapping action by using the real-time states and a trained optimal policy generating phase swapping commands based on the multi-step phase swapping action, and transmitting, via the interface circuitry, the phase swapping commands to phase swapping devices arranged at around the sensors, wherein the phase swapping devices are configured to perform the multi-step phase swapping action based on the phase swapping commands.
Reliable Time-Controlled System and Method for Energy Management
The invention relates to a reliable system and method for energy management at an end user of electrical energy. The proposed energy management system comprises two substantially independent fault containment units (FCU), an energy steering system (110) and an energy optimization system (150), which exchange data via a well-defined message interface. The energy steering system performs the energy distribution according to the target data (142) periodically received from the energy optimization system. The energy optimization system calculates the optimum use of energy at any given time. Since the energy optimization system has no direct contact with the Internet during normal operation, there can be no intrusion into the energy optimization system. If the energy optimization system fails due to an intrusion, the energy steering system takes over the target data from an contingency/emergency plan stored locally a priori.
Grid frequency deviation response control system and method
Provided are a frequency modulation method, device and system based on a new energy support machine and an energy storage device, and a new energy field station. The method includes: acquiring a system frequency offset value; determining a frequency modulation scheme for the new energy support machine and/or the energy storage device according to the system frequency offset value; generating a frequency modulation instruction for the new energy support machine and/or the energy storage device according to the frequency modulation scheme, so that the new energy support machine and/or the energy storage device execute a corresponding frequency modulation instruction and modulate the system frequency. The method has high regularity, flexibility in rule adjustment and good real-time performance. When the system frequency of a power grid fluctuates, a new energy support machine with higher durability is selected to support the power grid. The electrochemical energy storage device with poorer durability is selected to support the power grid only when the frequency fluctuation of the system is excessive, thereby reducing the number of times the energy storage device is used, realizing the safe operation of the energy storage device, and improving the use safety of the energy storage device.
