A method and apparatus for injection molding of plastic material into a cavity of a mold by means of at least one injector whose opening and closing occurs through an electronic control unit and wherein an undesired opening of the mold caused by any overpressure of the plastic material injected into the cavity of the mold is detected by means of transducers and corrected by means of the electronic control unit. The transducers are arranged outside the cavity of the mold.
COMPACT STACK VALVE GATE
An injection molding system is disclosed herein that may include a manifold that may have a manifold melt channel for receiving melted resin, a nozzle having a nozzle melt channel for receiving the melted resin from the manifold melt channel and delivering the melted resin to a mold cavity via a mold gate. In other examples, a valve pin may extend through at least a portion of the nozzle melt channel such that a forward end of the valve pin may be seatable within the mold gate. In certain examples, the injection molding system may include one or more drop plate, each of which defines walls of a cylinder within which a piston reciprocates, and each which may contain cooling circuits and pressurized circuits for opening and closing the piston. With regard to injection molding system containing multiple drop plates, each drop plate is independent of the other drop plates, and each drop plate is dedicated to a single nozzle assembly. In other examples, the drop plates may house a valve pin coupling system configured to permit movement of a valve pin in a lateral direction independent from a lateral position of the piston.

A hot-runner injection molding apparatus that facilitates use of actuators in a compact design includes a hot-runner manifold defining resin channels for conveying resin to nozzles that serve as conduits for introducing liquid resin into a mold cavity, a valve pin configured for linear movement along a longitudinal axis of the nozzle to control flow of liquid resin through the nozzle, and an actuator having a housing, wherein the valve pin is coupled to a drive shaft within the housing.

An injection molding apparatus (10) comprising: one or more valves each comprised of a valve pin (1040, 1041, 1042) adapted to be driven upstream and downstream through a downstream channel (1006) that has a downstream channel portion (1006ds) that has a control surface (1008), the control surface (1008) forming a channel or restriction gap (CG, 1006rg), the valve pin (1041) being controllably drivable upstream and downstream through the channel or restriction gap (CG, 1006rg) at a single selected rate of upstream acceleration up to a selected reduced upstream velocity that is less than a maximum velocity at which the valve pin (1041) is drivable, the size or configuration of the channel or restriction gap (CG, 1006rg) and the single selected rate of upstream acceleration being selected in combination with each other to control flow of injection fluid (18) through the channel gap (CG, 1006rg).
METHOD TO CHASE WELD LINES BY TIMING AND POSITIONING OF GATES
A mold apparatus for forming a molded part includes a mold body, a mold cavity formed in said mold body, a plurality of valve gates associated with said mold body, and a controller in communication with said plurality of valve gates. The controller is programmed to time opening of each valve gate based on a selected flow rate required to eliminate weld lines in the product.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING A POSITION OF AN ACTUATOR PISTON
Apparatus and method for detecting a position of an actuator piston driving a valve pin in an injection molding system. The apparatus includes an actuator housing having a body portion, surrounding an axial bore, of a substantially non-magnetic and/or magnetically permeable material, a piston, movable within the axial bore for driving a valve pin, the piston including a magnetic member generating a magnetic field such that axial movement of the piston in the bore modifies the magnetic field according to the position of the piston relative to a detection position, and a magnetic field detector attached to an exterior surface of the body portion at the detection position for detecting the magnetic field associated with the position of the piston and generating an output signal determined by the piston position.

An injection molding apparatus (5) comprising an injection molding machine (IMM), a heated manifold (60) that receives injection fluid (9) and distributes the injection fluid through a fluid distribution channel (120), a mold (70) having a cavity (80) and one or more valves (50) having a valve pin (100) the one or more valves (50) being comprised of: an electrically driven actuator (200), a controller including an algorithm that controllably limits rotation of a shaft (12) or output rotation device (16, 430, 500) during the course of an entire injection cycle to selectable angular positions that create a moment arm that extends between selected a selected minimum moment arm and a selected maximum moment arm, the selectable angular positions being between 70 degrees above and 70 degrees below an angular position that corresponds to the selected maximum moment arm.

An injection molding apparatus including: a valve pin driven by an actuator, the valve pin extending axially through at least a portion of the channel length of the fluid flow channel, the fluid flow channel including a throat, downstream flow of the injection fluid being restricted by a bulb portion of the pin, the valve pin having an intermediate position where downstream flow of injection fluid is unrestricted and a fully downstream position where downstream flow of injection fluid is stopped at both the gate and at the throat, wherein the actuator is driven by a valve assembly comprised of a spool mechanically driven by first and second actuators or solenoids that each separately engage the spool at opposing axial ends to effect movement of the spool back and forth between the drive fluid flow positions.
