Porous sheet product and methods of making and using the same. In one embodiment, the porous sheet product may be made by a process that includes providing an extrusion mixture, the extrusion mixture including a polymeric binder, a swelling agent, a compatibilizing agent, and a superabsorbent polymer, the superabsorbent polymer being in particle form. The superabsorbent polymer may be wet-milled such that its particle size before and after milling is reduced by a ratio of at least 5:1. The extrusion mixture may be melt-extruded to form a sheet material in film form. At least a portion of the swelling and compatibilizing agents may be removed. The porous sheet product is preferably liquid permeable and may be used, for example, as a battery separator, as a food packaging material, as a diffusion barrier and disposable garments.

IMPROVED PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING THERMOPLASTIC ABS MOLDING COMPOSITIONS

The invention is directed to a process for producing a ABS composition comprising 30-80 wt.-% of copolymer matrix A, 19.99-60 wt.-% of ABS-copolymer B, 0-40 wt.-% of polymer C and 0.01-20 wt.-% of additives D, having the steps: a) mixing the components A, B and D and optionally C, by using an extruder comprising: a first feeding zone FZ1, a mechanical dewatering zone DZ, in which component B is mechanically dewatered, and wherein: the mechanical dewatering zone DZ comprises at least one dewatering aperture, in particular for liquid water, wherein the mechanical dewatering DZ zone comprises one or more elements made of a stainless steel material; in a second feeding zone FZ2, at least part of component A and optionally part of component D are fed, preferably in melt and/or solid form, to the extruder, in a degassing zone DG component A and/or component B are degassed, and b) removing the ABS molding composition from a discharge zone CZ of the extruder.

Elimination of contaminants in wet natural rubber

A method for preparation of decontaminated natural rubber is provided. The method is characterized in that it comprises a decontamination step in which wet natural rubber coagulum passes through a system comprising an extruder and a filter installed at the extruder outlet, the extruder comprising an axially symmetrical grooved sheath comprising in its thickness grooves opening on the inner surface of the sheath.

SYSTEM AND A METHOD FOR EXTRUSION OF MATERIAL

A system for extrusion of material, for example chopped waste plastic, comprises a treatment device (101) for extruding the material and a feeder device (102) comprising a screw conveyor (103) for supplying the material to the treatment device. A screw element (104) of the screw conveyor has: a) a conical profile so that a diameter of the screw element decreases in a moving direction of the material and/or b) a thread-pitch decreasing in the moving direction of the material and/or c) an axial thickness of a screw thread crest increasing in the moving direction. The conical profile of the screw element and/or the thread-pitch decreasing in the moving direction and/or the axial thickness of the screw thread crest increasing in the moving direction improve the ability of the screw conveyor to compact the material and thereby to supply a sufficiently uniform material flow to the treatment device.

Process for the manufacturing of ABS-molding compositions

A process for preparing a thermoplastic polymer composition or a thermoplastic polymer blend, comprising: from 20 to 80% by weight of at least one water-moist elastomer component A containing up to 40%, preferably up to 30% by weight of residual water, from 20 to 80% by weight of at least one thermoplastic polymer B, from 0 to 40% by weight of at least one further polymer C, and from 0 to 60% by weight of additive(s) D, by mixing the elastomer component A with the thermoplastic polymer B and, if present, the further polymer C and, if present, the additive(s) D in an extruder, comprising the steps of precipitating the elastomer component A, and mechanical dewatering of the elastomer component A leads to improved salt-free products.
