METHOD AND DEVICE, IN PARTICULAR FOR APPLYING CLAY TO A SURFACE
The invention relates to a method for mechanically treating clay (4), in particular for producing models, the clay (4) being heated by an extruder, extruded and applied to a surface (8), and to a corresponding device for mechanically treating clay (4), in particular for producing models. The invention is characterised in the device comprises an extruder (6) which is designed to heat and extrude clay (4) for applying to a surface (8).
Method of forming a non-cylindrical filament for use in extrusion-based digital manufacturing systems
A consumable material for use in an extrusion-based digital manufacturing system, the consumable material comprising a length and a cross-sectional profile of at least a portion of the length that is axially asymmetric. The cross-sectional profile is configured to provide a response time with a non-cylindrical liquefier of the extrusion-based digital manufacturing system that is faster than a response time achievable with a cylindrical filament in a cylindrical liquefier for a same thermally limited, maximum volumetric flow rate.
EXTRUSION ASSEMBLY FOR AN ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM
An extrusion assembly, a method of constructing an extrusion assembly, and an additive manufacturing system including an extrusion assembly are disclosed. The extrusion assembly includes an extrusion die; a channel having an inlet and an outlet, which is in fluid communication with the extrusion die; and a heating element that melts a filament material drive through the channel so that the melted material is extruded by the extrusion die. The heating element can be helically wound about the channel or extend parallel to the channel, among other configurations. Further, the extrusion assembly includes a temperature sensor that is positioned adjacent to the channel between the extrusion die and the heating element. The channel, heating element, and temperature sensor are enclosed together within a sheath as a single integral unit. An additive manufacturing system utilizing the extrusion assembly can include a drive assembly, a support assembly, and a controller.
Rubber Preforming Apparatus
A rubber preforming apparatus includes a direct drive motor unit slidably disposed on a base unit. The direct drive motor unit includes a drive motor and a deceleration mechanism. The deceleration mechanism includes an input shaft coupling and an output shaft coupling axially aligned with and co-rotatably connected to the input shaft coupling. A drive spindle of the drive motor is inserted into and rotating together with the input shaft coupling. An extruder casing is disposed adjacent to the output shaft coupling and has a squeezing space. An extruder screw is disposed in the squeezing space, and includes a screw shaft with one end coaxially inserted into and rotating together with the output shaft coupling.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING BIODEGRADABLE, COMPOSTABLE, DRINK STRAWS FROM POLYHYDROXYALKANOATE MATERIAL
Apparatus and methods for manufacturing compostable, biodegradable drink straws from polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) material are disclosed herein. Such apparatus may include a hopper that contains raw PHA material, an extruder that receives the raw PHA material from the hopper and produces extruded PHA material, one or more waters baths that cool the extruded PHA material, a puller that pulls a tubular stream of PHA material through the system, and a cutter that is configured to cut the stream of PHA material into finished straws. The finished straws may be soil- and marine-biodegradable, as well as home- and industrial-compostable.
EXTRUDER FOR A THREE-DIMENSIONAL PRINTER
An extruder for a 3-dimensional (3D) printer includes a motor having an upright drive shaft, and a print head having a gearbox, a hopper body, and a shroud sequentially coupled in a top-down arrangement with the hopper body positioned adjacent the motor. The print head further includes a nozzle disposed at a bottom portion of the shroud, a barrel in fluid communication with the nozzle and the hopper body, and a screw conveyor moveably supported within the barrel and the hopper body such that the screw conveyor is disposed in rotatable engagement with the upright drive shaft of the motor via gearing arrangement of the gearbox. Upon rotation by the upright drive shaft in a first direction, the screw conveyor is axially retractable in relation to the nozzle for selectively defining a positive displacement pump that controls a flow of feedstock output by the nozzle.
Three-dimensional printer tool systems
An extruder or other similar tool head of a three-dimensional printer is slidably mounted along a feedpath of build material so that the extruder can move into and out of contact with a build surface according to whether build material is being extruded. The extruder may be spring-biased against the forward feedpath so that the extruder remains above the build surface in the absence of applied forces, and then moves downward into a position for extrusion when build material is fed into the extruder. In another aspect, modular tool heads are disclosed that can be automatically coupled to and removed from the three-dimensional printer by a suitable robotics system. A tool crib may be provided to store multiple tool heads while not in use.
