Electrical Transmission Cables With Composite Cores
The present invention discloses electrical cables containing a cable core and a plurality of conductive elements surrounding the cable core. The cable core contains at least one composite core, and each composite core contains a rod which contains a plurality of unidirectionally aligned fiber rovings embedded within a thermoplastic polymer matrix, and surrounded by a capping layer.
APPARATUS, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR THERMAL MANAGEMENT OF SUBSEA PIPELINE
Disclosed are apparatus, systems and methods for maintaining desired thermal properties of a flowing hydrocarbon fluid in a subsea pipeline. An insulating layer including a plurality of elongated hollow elements containing an insulation material can surround the pipeline. The apparatus can be located on a seabed and connected to a source of hydrocarbon fluid at one end and to a facility for processing hydrocarbon fluid at another end. One method includes spirally winding an elongated hollow element containing an insulation material around the subsea pipeline. One method includes wrapping the subsea pipeline with a connecting layer which includes surface protrusions protruding radially outwards. An insulating layer having surface features reversibly engageable with the surface protrusions of the connecting layer can be reversibly attached to the connecting layer by engaging the surface features of the at least one elongated hollow element with the surface protrusions of the connecting layer.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR LINER BRAIDING AND RESIN APPLICATION
A method of making a tank for storing fluid that includes generating a resinated braid layer on an elongated liner having a plurality of successively alternating rigid and flexible portions along the length of the liner. Generating the resinated braid layer on the liner includes feeding the liner into a braiding machine and applying resin to a plurality of fibers during a braiding process to generate a resinated plurality of fibers and generating, over a length of the liner, by the braiding machine, the resinated braid layer defined by the resinated plurality of fibers.
Composite core for electrical transmission cables
A composite core for use in electrical cables, such as high voltage transmission cables is provided. The composite core contains at least one rod that includes a continuous fiber component surrounded by a capping layer. The continuous fiber component is formed from a plurality of unidirectionally aligned fiber rovings embedded within a thermoplastic polymer matrix. The present inventors have discovered that the degree to which the rovings are impregnated with the thermoplastic polymer matrix can be significantly improved through selective control over the impregnation process, and also through control over the degree of compression imparted to the rovings during formation and shaping of the rod, as well as the calibration of the final rod geometry. Such a well impregnated rod has a very small void fraction, which leads to excellent strength properties. Notably, the desired strength properties may be achieved without the need for different fiber types in the rod.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A LINER HOSE FOR LINING PIPES AND APPARATUS FOR CARRYING OUT THE METHOD
A method for producing a liner hose (2) for lining pipelines, comprising the method steps of moving a circumferentially closed inner film hose (4) over a winding mandrel (6) of a winding apparatus (8) and wrapping the inner film hose (4), which is guided on the winding mandrel (6) by means of a guide mechanism (18), with a fibrous strip (12) which has been impregnated with curable reaction resin, is characterized in that the inner film hose (4) is guided via endless pulling means (14) that circulate without a drive, and in that the inner film hose (4) that has been wrapped with the fibrous strip (12) is moved off of the winding mandrel (6) solely by a pull-off mechanism (16) which acts from the outside on the fibrous strip (12). The invention further relates to a device for carrying out the method.
Methods for manufacturing a paint roller and component parts thereof with composite cover material
Described are methods of making a paint roller using thermoplastic strip material, adhesive and a composite cover material. The materials can be assembled in a continuous manufacturing process by helically winding a strip comprising polypropylene around a mandrel so as to form a helically wound strip, advancing the wound strip along the mandrel, applying a molten layer of adhesive comprising polypropylene onto the outer surface of the wound strip, wrapping a strip of composite cover material about the wound strip and over the layer of adhesive, and allowing the adhesive to cool, thereby laminating the composite cover material with the outer surface of the wound strip.
Method for manufacturing lightweight cowl crossbar
A method for manufacturing a lightweight cowl crossbar includes: producing an inner pipe, laminating a plurality of composite material layers wound around the inner pipe, and extruding an outer pipe on the winding layer, in which the plurality of composite material layers adjacent to each other are wound in different directions.
OUTER SHEATH REPAIR SYSTEM AND RELATED METHODS FOR FLEXIBLE PIPE
Methods of repairing a flexible pipe include securing a composite tape to a surface of an outer sheath using a structural adhesive, the composite tape forming a composite repair over a rupture in the outer sheath; and immobilizing the composite tape at the ends of the wrapped portion with a securing device. Methods of repairing a flexible pipe include applying a structural adhesive to a composite tape; and securing to composite tape to an outer sheath of the flexible pipe, the composite tape forming a composite repair over a rupture in the outer sheath. Systems include a flexible pipe; a composite repair sealing a rupture in an outer sheath of the flexible pipe, the composite repair including a composite tape wrapped helically around the flexible pipe, and a structural adhesive securing the composite tape to the flexible pipe.
