SURFACE TREATMENT TO ENHANCE BONDING OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS
A method for surface preparation of composite substrates prior to adhesive bonding. A curable surface treatment layer containing blocked isocyanate compounds is applied onto a curable composite substrate, followed by co-curing. The surface treatment layer may be a resin layer without fibers or a removal peel ply composed of resin-impregnated fabric. After surface preparation, the composite substrate is provided with a chemically-active, bondable surface that can be adhesively bonded to another composite substrate to form a covalently-bonded structure.
COMPONENT MOUNTING ON STORAGE TANKS
A tank (e.g., an underground storage tank), and manufacturing methods therefore, may include a tank body having an exterior surface. A component is mounted on at least a non-planar portion of the exterior surface of the tank body using an adhesive (e.g., an MMA adhesive). For example, the component may be positioned on the non-planar portion of the exterior surface of the tank body after application of adhesive and pressure may be applied to maintain the position of the component on the non-planar portion of the exterior surface of the tank body as the adhesive is cured. The pressure may be removed upon curing of the adhesive and formation of a structural bond may occur at the adhesive interface between the mounting surface of the component and the non-planar portion of the exterior surface of the tank body.
METHOD FOR BONDING RUBBER AND ADHESIVE FOR BONDING RUBBER
The invention relates to a high-strength and permanently elastic curable adhesive for bonding at least two surfaces, of which at least one surface is a surface of a permanently elastic plastic wherein the adhesive is an adhesive that cures in at least two different hardening mechanisms, wherein the first hardening mechanism comprises a chemical reaction to form a chemical bond including a sulphur atom, and the second hardening mechanism comprises the formation of crystalline structures from amorphous polymers. The invention also relates to a method for high-strength and permanently elastic bonding of at least two surfaces to one another, of which at least one surface is that of a permanently elastic plastic, by means of such an adhesive, said method comprising the steps of: applying the adhesive to at least a first of the surfaces to be connected, ensuring conditions under which at least the first hardening mechanism of the adhesive can take place, bringing the first surface into contact with the second surface, and ensuring conditions under which the second hardening mechanism of the adhesive can take place.
Blade guard for razor blades made of curable adhesive
The invention relates to the use of a curable adhesive as a blade guard for razor blades of razor systems, wherein the curable adhesive has one or more layers applied over the razor blades and/or the razor blade holder, wherein the outer cutting edges of the razor blades are completely embedded in the adhesive and the curable adhesive is an optically transparent curable adhesive.
INTERMEDIATE TRANSFER MEMBER
A heat-curable tape, a kit, and a method for connecting ends of an elongate belt to form an intermediate transfer members suitable for use with indirect printing systems. The kit includes an elongate belt and the heat-curable tape. The kit can include a crimping pin. The method includes using the heat curable tape to join ends of the elongate belt at a seam. A heater is used, in a printing system, for heat-curing the heat-curable tape onto the free ends of the elongate belt so as to form the intermediate transfer member.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GROUND-BASED ADVERTISING
Methods for installing an advertising unit at an installation area of a surface are provided. The installation area is cleaned. One or more holes are formed in the installation area. The adhesive is applied at the installation area. The advertising unit is deposited at the installation area atop the adhesive. A fastener is passed through at least a portion of the advertising unit into each of the one or more holes. The adhesive is cured.
Method of installing a heat tube on pre-insulated piping
A method is shown for installing a heat tube on a section of pre-insulated piping. A metal carrier pipe is covered with a first layer of foam insulation. Next, a routing device is used to cut a longitudinal slot along the length of the pipe so that the pipe exterior surface is exposed from the insulation. A heat tube is then installed within the longitudinal slot, whereby the heat tube contacts the exterior surface of the metal carrier pipe. A second layer of foam insulation is then sprayed onto the exterior of the metal carrier pipe, covering the previously formed longitudinal slot and installed heat tube. A polyolefin coating is then applied over the insulation to form a protective outer jacket for the insulated pipe.
STRINGER PLUG
A plugged stringer on a surface of a part, and a method and assembly for production of the plugged stringer. The plug has opposite first and second axial end faces. The plug also has a radially outer margin defined by a radially outer bottom face, radially outer first and second opposite side faces, and a radially outer top face. The plugged stringer also includes a covering overlaying the radially outer top face and the first and second opposite side faces of the plug and extending away from the plug along an axis to form a stringer having first and second segments delineated by the plug. The radially outer margin of the plug is at least partly covered by an adhesive. The radially outer bottom face is adhered to the surface of the part, and the covering is adhered to the radially outer first and second opposite side faces and the radially outer top face. The first and second segments of the stringer respectively define first and second fluid passages separated by the plug. The first fluid passage is fluidly isolated from the second fluid passage by the plug.
MULTI-MATERIAL ASSEMBLY AND METHODS OF MAKING THERE OF
A multi-material assembly is provided, as well as methods of making a multi-material assembly. The multi-material assembly includes a first coated structural component and a second structural component. The first coated structural component includes a first uncoated portion, and an adhesive is positioned between the second structural component and the first uncoated portion that secures the first coated structural component to the second structural component.
Sandwich panel joints and methods for joining sandwich panels
Joints for joining panels together, such as for joining honeycomb sandwich panels used in aerospace applications, and methods of joining said panels are disclosed. In some examples of disclosed joints, a first panel and a second panel can be joined together to form a joint. The first panel can be a flat panel that includes a rabbet formed along a first longitudinal edge, and the second panel can be a curved panel that includes a notch formed along a second longitudinal edge. In forming the joint, a portion of the rabbet can be positioned within the notch, and the flat panel and curved panel can be oriented at a non-parallel and non-perpendicular angle to one another. Adhesive can be applied along the rabbet and/or the notch in order to secure the joint.
