A laminated material comprising a first and second layer of material bonded at spaced apart bond sites is disclosed, with a plurality of elastic strands disposed in a non-linear manner between said first and second layer of material, so that said strands meander in a cross-machine direction and traverse a machine direction line, restraining movement of the strands by frictional forces between the strands and the non-woven layers.

A flexible bonding roll including one or more pressure applying members is configured to operatively engage an anvil roll. The one or more pressure applying members include one or more spring elements. The spring elements allow for the one or more pressure applying members to compress as the pressure applying members are engaged by the outer circumferential surface of the anvil roll. The compression of the pressure applying members allows for relatively reduced damage of substrates and equipment during bonding.

The ultrasonic welding member may be a substantially lattice-shaped fabric or textile mesh at least in a part thereof. When the ultrasonic welding member is held between the surface to be welded of the first member and the surface to be welded of the second member, crossing parts of threads of the mesh may form a bonding place between the ultrasonic welding member and the surface to be welded of the first member and a bonding place between the ultrasonic welding member and the surface to be welded of the second member.

The method includes attaching a removable shell layer to at least a portion of an exterior surface of a rotating roll, advancing at least a laminate material assembly along a machine direction to dispose the laminate material assembly on the removable shell layer, applying a vacuum pressure to the laminate material assembly, ultrasonically bonding the laminate material assembly, and advancing the elastic laminate including the laminate pattern along the machine direction.
