FILMS AND BAGS WITH VISUALLY DISTINCT REGIONS AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME

One or more implementations of a multi-layer film include a first layer non-continuously bonded to a second pigmented layer. The multi-layer film includes an unexpected appearance differing from the appearance of the pigmented layer. In one or more embodiments, the multi-layer film includes a metallic appearance despite the pigmented layer being devoid of metallic pigment. The multi-layer film also includes areas that are visually distinct from areas of the film with the unexpected appearance. The visually-distinct areas comprise areas in which the first layer non-continuously is in intimate contact with the second pigmented layer. The visually-distinct areas have the appearance of the pigmented layer or another appearance. One or more implementations also include methods of making multi-layer films and bags with an unexpected appearance and visually-distinct areas.

Using a conveyance roller having an outer peripheral surface which is capable of conveying two sheets with an elastic element sandwiched therebetween, in a longitudinal direction of the sheets, and formed with a convex section; and a clamping and pressing device, the sheets with the elastic element sandwiched therebetween are ultrasonic-welded together under pressing. The convex section is formed in a shape extending along a line intersecting a conveyance direction of the conveyance roller, and the convex section is provided with a plurality of grooves at positions spaced apart from each other in a longitudinal direction thereof, wherein each of the grooves extends in the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller to allow a portion of the sheets on which the elastic element is disposed, to be inserted therein.

Providing two sheets which are opposed to each other, and a plurality of elastic elements each disposed between the sheets to extend along a stretchable direction of a composite stretchable member in such a manner as to be stretchable in the stretchable direction, wherein: the sheets are bonded together in a plurality of bonding sections, wherein each of the bonding sections is configured to continuously extend along a line intersecting the stretchable direction and to intersect the plurality of elastic elements; and each of the elastic elements is bonded to the sheets at intersection points with the bonding sections.

Non-continuously laminated multi-layered bags

Multi-layer bags may be formed to include first and second sidewalls joined along a first side edge, an opposite second side edge, and a closed bottom edge. The first and second layers may be non-continuously laminated together to include bonded regions in which the layers are bonded and unbonded regions in which the layers are not bonded. Such a bag may be described as a bag-in-a-bag type configuration in which the inner bag is non-continuously bonded to the outer bag. The inventors have surprisingly found that such configurations of non-continuous bonding provides increased and unexpected strength properties to the multi-layer films and bags.

Multi-layer thermoplastic films and bags with enhanced odor control and methods of making the same

A multi-layer thermoplastic film include a first film of thermoplastic material, a second film of thermoplastic material bonded to the first film, and an odor control component disposed between the first film and the second film. A method of manufacturing a multi-layer thermoplastic film coextruding a plurality of layers to form a first film, coextruding a plurality of layers to form a second film, disposing at least one odor control component on at least one of the first film and the second film, and bonding the first and second films together such that the at least one substance is disposed between the first film and the second film.

DAMAGE TOLERANT PATTERNED BOND

A bond is provided and includes a substrate having a first surface, a bond structure having a second surface and a bonding assembly adhesively disposed between complementary portions of the first and second surfaces. The bonding assembly includes discrete bond elements configured to form first and second adhesive zones with local sections of the complementary portions of the first and second surfaces. The discrete bond elements are displaced such that the respective first and second adhesive zones are correspondingly displaced and define discontinuous bond lines.
