Securing a second object to a first object
A method of mechanically securing a first object including a thermoplastic material in a solid state to a second object with a generally flat sheet portion, with a perforation of the sheet portion, and with the sheet portion having an edge along the perforation is provided, wherein the first object is positioned relative to the second object so that the edge is in contact with the thermoplastic material and wherein mechanical vibration energy is coupled into the assembly including the first and second objects until a flow portion of the thermoplastic material due to friction heat generated between the edge and the thermoplastic material becomes flowable and flows around the edge to at least partially embed the edge in the thermoplastic material. After the mechanical vibration stops, the thermoplastic material is caused to re-solidify, whereby the re-solidified thermoplastic material at least partially embedding the edge anchors the first object in the second object.
Electronic module with an improved shell and method for making the same
An electronic module includes first and second shells respectively having first and second edge surfaces with respective first and second joint units jointed together by ultrasonic welding. The first joint unit has first and second projection portions on the first edge surface, a first indentation portion between the first and second projection portions, and a bump on the second projection portion. The second joint unit complementarily engages the first joint unit. First and second bonding layers are respectively formed between the first indentation portion and the second joint unit and between the second projection portion and the second joint unit. Waterproof cable assemblies are mounted to the shells.
Plastic Containing Assembly Having Filler Material Arrangement for Welding
A plastic containing assembly is provided with a container including a containing member, a front reduced section formed with the containing member, and a shoulder between a front end of the containing member and the reduced section; and a hollow, externally threaded adaptor including an outer protrusion put on the reduced section, an inner projection inserted into both the front end of the containing member and the reduced section, a groove on an outer surface of the projection, a filler member between the groove and the protrusion, and an axial passage communicating with an open front end of the adaptor and the projection respectively. An ultrasonic welding machine may apply high-frequency ultrasonic acoustic vibrations to the filler member and melt same to join the shoulder, thereby forming a first joining layer; and melt a joining portion of the reduced section and the protrusion, thereby forming a second joining layer.
Method for Producing Joined Body
The present invention provides a method for producing a joined body, the method including: disposing a joining member between a member A containing a thermoplastic resin and a member B containing a thermoplastic resin, the joining member including a sheet part containing a thermoplastic resin, and a plurality of protrusion parts integrally formed with the sheet part on at least one surface of the sheet part, the protrusion parts containing a thermoplastic resin; and melting at least a part of the joining member to join the member A and the member B to obtain a joined body thereof.
SYSTEM COMPRISING STUD AND TOOL, AS WELL AS METHOD FOR FIXING THE STUD TO AN OBJECT WITH THE AID OF THE TOOL
A system and a method for stud fixation with the aid of mechanical vibration energy that is applied to the stud and that is used for local liquefaction or at least plastification of a material, which is based on a thermoplastic polymer and includes the stud (at least distal stud end) and/or by the object (at least in a fixation location), wherein simultaneously the distal stud end is pressed against the fixation location of the object. Depending on the material pairing of stud (distal stud end) and object (fixation location), this results, on re-solidification of the liquefied or plasticized material, in an embedding of the distal stud end in the object (e.g. positive fit connection), in a welded connection between the distal stud end and the object, or in a local penetration of stud material into the object (e.g. positive fit connection).
Housing having housing parts bondable together and method of manufacturing the same
A housing includes a first surrounding wall connected around a base wall. The first surrounding wall has a first joint portion opposite to the base wall, a first outer surface and a first inner surface. The first outer and inner surfaces extend from the first joint portion toward the base wall. The first joint portion is stepped and has a first projecting portion adjoining the first outer surface, and a first shoulder portion indented from the first projecting portion and proximal to the first inner surface. The first shoulder portion has a plurality of parallel spaced-apart ribs protruding therefrom in a same direction as the first projecting portion. Each of the ribs has a tip that does not extend beyond a top end of the first projecting portion.
Method of fastening an object to a construction element
A method of fastening an edge structure to a construction element includes providing the construction element, being a planar structure with two cover regions and a middle region between the cover regions; providing the edge structure being continuously extended, the edge structure having contact surfaces with a thermoplastic material shaped to lie against the cover regions in an outer surface of the construction element, and, opposite the contact surfaces, a coupling-in surface for coupling energy into the edge structure; coupling energy into the edge structure and pressing the contact surfaces against the cover regions until at least a portion of the thermoplastic material is liquefied and pressed into the cover regions; and repeating or continuing the steps of coupling and pressing until the edge structure is attached to the building element at a plurality of discrete locations or over an extended region along an edge of the construction element.
DEVICES WITH MODIFIED CONDUITS
A centrifugal rotor device includes a first chamber configured to hold a fluid, and a second chamber configured to receive the fluid from the first chamber. The centrifugal rotor device also includes a conduit coupled to the first chamber at a conduit inlet and coupled to the second chamber at a conduit outlet, the conduit configured to permit movement of the fluid from the first chamber to the second chamber. The conduit includes a first channel and a second channel formed adjacent to the first channel. The second channel is in fluid communication with the first channel and has a dimension smaller than the smallest dimension of the first channel. The conduit also includes one or more obstructive features present in the second channel configured to impede movement of the fluid in the second channel.
IV MEMBRANE ATTACHMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS
An intravenous delivery system may have a liquid source containing a liquid, tubing, and an anti-run-dry membrane positioned such that the liquid, flowing form the liquid source to the tubing, passes through the anti-run-dry membrane. The anti-run-dry membrane may be positioned within an exterior wall of a drip unit, and may be secured to a seat of the exterior wall by an attachment component. The attachment component may have various forms, such as a secondary exterior wall that cooperates with the exterior wall to define a drip chamber, a washer positioned such that the anti-run-dry membrane is between the washer and the seat, and an adhesive ring formed of a pressure sensitive adhesive and secured to the anti-run-dry membrane and the seat via compression. Interference features may protrude inward from the exterior wall or outward from the anti-run-dry membrane to help keep the anti-run-dry membrane in place.

A device for positioning in the body of an animal, the device comprising a first portion and a second portion that may be positioned in contact with one other, the first portion and the second portion each comprising a biocompatible conductive thermoplastic material, such that when the device is positioned in the body of an animal and electric current flows from the first portion to the second portion, heat is generated by electrical resistance at the point of contact between the first portion and the second portion so as to melt regions of the first portion and the second portion, and when the electric current is thereafter terminated, the melted regions of the first portion and the second portion re-solidify so that a weld is formed between the first portion and the second portion.
