Electrically weldable suture material, and apparatus and method for forming welded suture loops and other welded structures
A device for positioning in the body of an animal, the device comprising a first portion and a second portion that may be positioned in contact with one other, the first portion and the second portion each comprising a biocompatible conductive thermoplastic material, such that when the device is positioned in the body of an animal and electric current flows from the first portion to the second portion, heat is generated by electrical resistance at the point of contact between the first portion and the second portion so as to melt regions of the first portion and the second portion, and when the electric current is thereafter terminated, the melted regions of the first portion and the second portion re-solidify so that a weld is formed between the first portion and the second portion.
Ultrasonic welding and welding horn having indenter
A method of joining includes disposing a second workpiece adjacent to a first workpiece. The method further includes identifying a determined hardness parameter of at least one of the first and second workpieces at a welding position. The determined hardness parameter is determined by at least one of estimation, calculation, and measurement. The method includes selecting a weld schedule based on the determined hardness parameter and welding the first and second workpieces together using the selected weld schedule. A welding horn includes a shank and a tip having an end face, the tip being disposed at an end of the shank and configured to contact a workpiece and to transmit energy to the workpiece. Knurls are disposed on the end face, each knurl having a distal end. A curved indenter extends from the end face beyond the distal ends of the knurls.
Injection molded composite blank and guide
This specification discloses an article of manufacture. The article of manufacture has at least one structural blank and at least one guide. The structural blank has a plurality of oriented fiber plies in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide has a plurality of random dispersed fibers in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide is affixed to the structural blank by injection molding and over molding the guide onto the structural blank. The article of manufacture can take a number of forms for use in industries such as aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, trains or watercraft.
Method for manufacturing a part made of a composite material comprising at least one portion forming a force-insertion portion or local thickened portion
A method for manufacturing of a part made of composite material including pre-compacting to a predetermined shape of a mixture of a first thermosetting resin with discontinuous long fibers so as to form a first preform, pre-curing the first preform until an intermediate conversion stage corresponding to a solidification of said first resin, contacting the first preform with a second preform including a fiber structure of continuous fibers impregnated with a second thermosetting resin, polymerizing the first and second preforms so as to form a part made of composite material including a body made of composite material including reinforcement made of continuous fibers consolidated by an organic matrix provided with a portion made of composite material including reinforcement made of discontinuous long fibers consolidated by an organic matrix.
Method for producing a composite component for a motor vehicle
A method for producing a composite component, which has a first section and a second section connected to the first section, the first section including a metallic material, the second section including a plastic, the first section having a first base region and projections provided on the first base region, and the projections provided on the first base region being anchored in the second section in order to bring about the connection between the first section and the second section, includes: manufacturing the first base region of the first section; creating the projections directly on the first base region by way of an additive manufacturing method; and connecting the second section to the first section.
JOINING MATERIAL FOR LASER WELDING AND LASER WELDING METHOD USING THE SAME
A joining material for laser welding, a laser welding method using the same, and a laser joined body using the laser welding method. The joining material includes a polymer matrix and a needle-shaped inorganic filler. The polymer matrix includes a polypropylene resin having a melt index of 80 g/10 min or more to 95 g/10 min or less as measured at a temperature of 230° C. and a load of 2.16 kg, and the needle-shaped organic filler has an aspect ratio of 10:1 to 20:1.
Methods of joining and repairing composite components
A first thermoplastic component and a second thermoplastic component including a first joint portion and a second joint portion, respectively, are provided. A least a portion of a surface area of each of the first and second joint portions include a respective first and second mating surface. The first and second mating surfaces of the respective first and second joint portions are positioned in contact with one another. The first and second joint portions are fusion joined. Fusion joining the first and second joint portions forms a fused unitary portion of the first and second thermoplastic components.
Method of assembling two pieces of different materials and assembly resulting from the method of assembling
A method of assembling a first part made from a metal and a second part includes providing a first part comprising an assembly surface, and a second part comprising at least one through orifice. At least part of the second part is arranged on the assembly surface such that the orifice extends across from the assembly surface. A metal connecting part is positioned on the orifice to cover the orifice across from the assembly surface. The connecting part and/or the assembly surface are projected on one another to obtain high-speed plating and welding between the connecting part and the surface part.
Composite structures having bondlines with matched electrical conductivity
Two composite laminates are joined together by a bondline having portions exposed to the ambient environment. The bondline contains scrim having an electrical conductivity and impedance matched to that of the laminates in order to mitigate effects of lightning strikes.
COMPOSITE STRUCTURES AND METHODS OF FORMING COMPOSITE STRUCTURES
Composite structures and methods of forming composite structures are provided. The composite structures can include one or more composite structure components. Each composite structure component is formed from a composite panel that includes one or more sheets of material. The sheets of material include a thermoplastic material and a plurality of reinforcing fibers. A composite panel can be formed in three dimensions to form a composite structure component. Multiple composite structure components can be fused to one another to form a composite structure. In addition, each composite structure component and the composite structure formed therefrom can include an aperture. An interior volume can be formed between adjacent composite structure components. Methods for forming a composite structure can include a step of simultaneously molding and fusing composite structure components.
