Systems and methods to improve weld quality are described. For example, certain systems and methods described use weld quality monitoring as feedback to an ultrasonic welding process to improve weld quality. Still other systems and methods provide improvement to double sided and single sided ultrasonic welding through the use of selected multiple pulses.

A tool for fabrication of a thermoplastic panel includes a sealed vessel, a membrane and a heater. The sealed vessel defines a volume. The sealed vessel includes first and second fluid ports. The membrane is disposed within the volume to define first and second chambers. The first chamber receives a skin and a core of the thermoplastic panel. The first chamber selectively applies a first fluidic pressure to the skin and the core in response to receiving a first fluid via the first fluid port. The membrane abuts a major surface of the thermoplastic panel. The second chamber selectively applies a second fluidic pressure to the membrane in response to receiving a second fluid via the second fluid port. The heater selectively directs heat toward the first chamber. A method for fabrication of the thermoplastic panel is provided. Various examples of thermoplastic panels are also provided.

A sealing width in at least a part of a section where the packaging cover is sealed together with the lead wire is narrower than a sealing width in a section where only the packaging cover is sealed. A sealing apparatus is configured to seal the packaging cover.

In an apparatus for successively making plastic bags, a laser beam irradiator irradiates laser beam onto webs of panel material and a body of zipper material to heat and melt the webs of panel material and the body of zipper material with the laser beam. The webs of panel material and the body of zipper material are fed intermittently at a speed predetermined to be changed by time. The irradiator is controlled on a feedforward control basis for the laser beam to be regulated in amount, the amount being calculated from the speed predetermined, to obtain a calculated value of amount. The laser beam is regulated in accordance with the calculated value to heat and melt the webs of panel material and the body of zipper material uniformly irrespective of the speed being changed.

Joining of polymer and surface-modified solid part

The present invention relates to alternative methods of joining a solid part (1) and a polymer (2). The methods comprise attaching a primer layer (4) with a predetermined surface chemistry, density and thickness covalently to at least a part of a surface (3) of the solid part (1). Some embodiments of the invention further comprise polymerizing second molecules onto the primer layer (4) so that the surface (3) is at least partly covered with surface immobilized polymer brushes (8). The surface (3) of the solid part (1) is brought into contact with the polymer (2) and a predetermined temperature profile is applied resulting in covalent bonds (6) being established between the polymer (2) and the primer (4), and/or polymer brushes (8) melting or softening and entangling with melted or softened polymer (2) so that the solid part (1) and the polymer (2) remain joined after cooling. The obtained strength of the bonding between the solid part (1) and the polymer (2) is significantly higher than if the same materials are joined with conventional methods not comprising the establishment of a primer layer (4).

A portable conveyor belt splicing apparatus is provided that includes an upper press assembly and a lower press assembly which include, respectively, upper and lower platen assemblies. The upper and lower press assemblies may each include a forced air cooling system for rapidly cooling platens of the platen assemblies. The upper and lower press assemblies may include insulating assemblies with resilient members that support the upper and lower press assemblies. The resilient members provide structural support and insulate the platens from the frame which reduces the power required to heat the platens. In one form, the apparatus includes a power supply circuit that can alternate between providing power to upper and lower heaters in response to the apparatus being connected to different types of standard power supplies. Further, the power supply circuit permits the use of a single recipe for a particular belt irrespective of the type of power supply.

A portable conveyor belt splicing apparatus is provided that includes an upper press assembly and a lower press assembly which include, respectively, upper and lower platen assemblies.
