METHODS OF CO-BONDING A FIRST THERMOSET COMPOSITE AND A SECOND THERMOSET COMPOSITE TO DEFINE A CURED COMPOSITE PART
Methods of co-bonding a first thermoset composite (TSC) and a second TSC to define a cured composite part are disclosed herein. The methods include partially curing the first TSC to a target state of cure (SOC) to define a first partially cured TSC. The partially curing is based, at least in part, on a maximum temperature of the first TSC during the partially curing and on an elapsed time that an actual temperature of the first TSC is greater than a threshold temperature. The methods further include combining the first partially cured TSC with the second TSC to define a partially cured TSC assembly and heating the partially cured TSC assembly to bond the first partially cured TSC to the second TSC, cure the partially cured TSC assembly, and produce a cured composite part.
In-Situ Fiber-Optic Temperature Field Measurement During Thermoplastic Composite Welding and Other Applications
An in-situ fiber-optic temperature field measurement is disclosed that can allow process monitoring and diagnosis for thermoplastic composite welding and other applications. A distributed fiber-optic sensor can be permanently embedded in a thermoplastic welded structure when it is welded and left there to perform lifelong monitoring and inspection. The fiber optic sensor can include a dissolvable coating, or a coating matched to the composite material to be welded. Other applications include in-situ fiber-optic temperature field measurement on thermoset composite curing (autoclave), for thermoplastic and thermoset composites during compression molding, and for fiber-optic field measurements on freeze/thaw of large items of public health interest, such as stored or transported foodstuffs.
APPAREL AND OTHER PRODUCTS INCORPORATING A THERMOPLASTIC POLYMER MATERIAL
A yarn or thread may include a plurality of substantially aligned filaments, with at least ninety-five percent of a material of the filaments being a thermoplastic polymer material. Various woven textiles and knitted textiles may be formed from the yarn or thread. The woven textiles or knitted textiles may be thermal bonded to other elements to form seams. A strand that is at least partially formed from a thermoplastic polymer material may extend through the seam, and the strand may be thermal bonded at the seam. The woven textiles or knitted textiles may be shaped or molded, incorporated into products, and recycled to form other products.
Method of Controlling Air Temperature for Making Seals
A method and apparatus for making bags from a film that follows a film path through a bag machine includes an input section located on the film path, a sealing section located on the film path down stream of the input section, an output section located on the film path downstream of the sealing section, and a controller, connected to control the sealing section. The sealing section includes a sealer that includes a heater block and a manifold. There is an air flow path from the heater block to the manifold. Air is heated in the heater block in response to a control signal provided by the controller to the heater block. The heated air is provided through the air path to the manifold. A temperature sensor is disposed in at least one of the air path and the manifold.

Inflation-Free Double-Sided Airbag and Preparation Method Thereof
Disclosed are an inflation-free double-sided airbag and its preparation method. The inflation-free double-sided airbag includes upper airbags arranged into an array and connected to one another to form a planar body, lower airbags arranged into an array and connected to one another to form a planar body, an elastic layer disposed between the upper airbag and the lower airbag and having an upper surface connected to the upper airbag and a lower surface connected to the lower airbag, and a soft edge connecting portion disposed between two adjacent upper airbags and between two adjacent lower airbags. After the airbag is pierced, it still has the protection effect. When an external pressure is exerted onto the inflation-free double-sided airbag, the elastic material layer provides a buffering effect to minimize the degree of deformation of the airbags and reduce impacts on a user or a product.
Bonding of heat-activated films including a plasticizer
Articles including a polymer film, a plasticizer and a substrate are included. A method of bonding the film to the substrate includes the use of the plasticizer which provides a durable bond by using a lower temperatures and shorter bonding times than would be required in the absence of the plasticizer.
Method for integrating a stiffener into a thermoplastic matrix composite part
The invention pertains to a composite part with a fibrous reinforcement and a thermoplastic polymer matrix, comprising: substrate part with a matrix of a first thermoplastic polymer having a first melting temperature; stiffener made of a composite material with a matrix of a second thermoplastic polymer having a second melting temperature; comprising the steps of: obtaining an unconsolidated preform of the substrate part; obtaining a preform of the stiffener; integrating a layer of the first thermoplastic polymer into the preform of the stiffener at a location configured to be in contact with the substrate part; and subjecting the substrate part and the preform of stiffener to a thermomechanical cycle so as to consolidate the substrate part and weld the stiffener to the substrate part.
Metal-resin joining method
A metal-resin joining method of joining a metal member to a composite material member including a fiber reinforced plastic composite material includes an applying step of applying a first adhesive that is a thermosetting adhesive to a first region between the metal member and the composite material member, and applying a second adhesive that is a thermosetting adhesive to a second region between the metal member and the composite material member, a provisional bonding step of irradiating a first irradiation region of the metal member opposed to the first region with a laser light, and heating and curing the first adhesive to provisionally bond the metal member and the composite material member together, and a main bonding step of curing the second adhesive after the provisional bonding step to bond the metal member and the composite material member together.
