Method of manufacturing a composite article
A system for manufacturing a composite article may include a resin-wetting control layer configured to be placed in contact with a composite ply of a composite preform. The resin-wetting control layer may be configured complementary to a ply surface of the composite ply.
Enhanced volatile removal for composite layup
A composite article lay up comprising a first layer of resin impregnated fiber material and a second layer of resin impregnated fiber material. An open cell material is layered between the first layer and the second layer. The open cell material has no resin during a first stage of a resin cure cycle. The open cell material has passages configured to flow volatiles formed during the first stage of the resin cure cycle. The open cell material is configured to fill with the resin during a second stage of the resin cure cycle. The open cell material is configured to form an integral structure with the first layer and the second layer as part of the composite article at the completion of the resin cure cycle.
Method of Manufacturing A Wind Turbine Blade
In a method for manufacturing a wind turbine blade half shell, a preformed and cured aerodynamic blade shell member 42 of a fibre reinforced resin is provided. A primarily uniaxial fibre material 66 comprising carbon fibre is laid up on a longitudinal inner area 50 of the preformed shell member 42 and then infused with a resin by vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding (VARTM), where a longitudinal resin inlet channel 80,82 is arranged on a first lateral side 46 and a vacuum channel 86,88 is arranged on a second lateral side 48 of the laid-up fibre material, and the resin is infused in transverse direction from the first to the second lateral side 46,48.
SYSTEM, VALVE, AND METHOD FOR LIQUID RESIN INFUSION
Described herein is a system for infusing liquid resin into a sheet of fibrous material. The system comprises a tool and a permeable media layer, configured to have the sheet therebetween. The system further comprises a non-permeable bladder configured to be sealed to the tool about the sheet of fibrous material and the permeable media layer such that the sheet of fibrous material and the permeable media layer are sealed between the non-permeable bladder and the tool. The system additionally comprises an inlet selectively fluidly coupleable with the permeable media layer to deliver liquid resin to the permeable media layer. The system also comprises an outlet selectively fluidly coupleable with the permeable media layer to create a pressure differential across the non-permeable bladder. The system further comprises a permeability control valve selectively operable to adjust the permeability of the permeable media layer.
Textured Approach for Joining a Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) to a Base Material
A texture is provided on a base material to assist flow of polymer matrix material from the fiber reinforced polymer into the base material. The textured surface may include a pattern of features such as knurls, depressions, ridges, asperities, cross-hatches, parallel or non-parallel lines, star shapes, triangles, hexagons, etc. The texture can be on one or both surfaces of the base material. The texture may be imprinted into the base material via, for example squeezing, machining, pressing, forming, knurling, stamping, etching, forging, cutting, rolling, or other imprinting processes.
Resin flow member for a vacuum assisted resin transfer moulding process
The disclosure relates to a fibre reinforced plastic composite material, including a vacuum assisted resin transfer moulded fibre reinforced plastic laminate prepared by use of a resin flow enhancing member, including a cavity with a first opening and a second opening as well as an resin flow adjusting arrangement for changing a resin flow cross section in a resin flow direction from the first opening to the second opening in the resin flow enhancing member by applying vacuum to the second opening. The resin flow adjusting arrangement includes a plurality of vacuum expandable filler elements that includes gas-filled closed cell cavities and flexible walls. The disclosure further relates to a vacuum assisted resin transfer moulding process for injecting resin from a resin flow enhancing member into a fibre stack.
Method of producing a panel and a core therefor
A core element is provided, having the shape of a block with a first surface, a second surface situated opposite the first surface, mutually facing longitudinal side faces, and mutually facing transverse side faces. The first surface is provided with the first groove that is a continuous groove which extends parallel to the longitudinal side faces. The longitudinal side faces are provided with the side wall grooves, the side wall grooves being continuous side wall grooves which extend between the first surface and the second surface and are separated from the first groove in the first surface.
HIGH-PRESSURE TANK FABRICATION METHOD
A high-pressure tank fabrication method includes a pre-form fabrication step and a molding step. In the pre-form fabrication step a pre-form is fabricated by winding dry fiber bundles with different thicknesses (first fiber bundles and second fiber bundles) onto a liner in a state in which the dry fiber bundles with different thicknesses are made to be adjacent to one another. In the molding step, molding includes disposing the pre-form fabricated in the pre-form fabrication step in a mold and injecting resin.
Optimized interlayer for a spar cap for a wind turbine blade
An interlayer sheet for a spar cap is provided. The interlayer sheet includes a first fibre layer having a first plurality of fibres with a first upper fibre surface and a first lower fibre surface, and a second fibre layer having comprising a second plurality of fibres with a second upper fibre surface and a second lower fibre surface. The first fibre layer is arranged on top of the second fibre layer, such that the first lower fibre surface is in contact with the second upper fibre surface. The first fibre layer is of a different characteristic than the second fibre layer. A number of the interlayer sheets may be arranged between a plurality of pre-cured fibre-reinforced elements to make a spar cap for a wind turbine blade.
MOULDING MATERIALS WITH IMPROVED SURFACE FINISH
An improved surface finish on articles moulded from prepregs is obtained by providing a surface finishing film on the surface of the prepreg and a surface venting layer on the surface of the surface finishing film in which the finishing film comprises a flowable tacky resin and the venting layer contains perforations which allow passage of the resin through the venting layer to provide removable adhesion between the surface of the mould and the moulding composition during moulding.
