Resin line with flow aid

The invention relates to a resin line (2) with openings on the circumference and a sleeve made of a flow aid material (4). The aim of the invention is to design the resin line such that the resin line does not leave impressions on the surface of the component under the effect of a vacuum and the resin dispensing process is improved. This is achieved in that the flow aid material (4) is placed about the resin line (2) such that the flow aid material (4) tabs (8) projecting beyond the resin line (2) form a double-layer web (6), in the region of which the tabs (8) are connected together.

Method of moulding a composite article and mould

The present invention relates to a method of moulding a composite article using a mould. The mould includes first and second rigid mould parts between them defining a mould cavity. A reservoir of resin is connected to an inlet into the mould cavity. A suction pump is connected to a port on the opposite side of the mould cavity from the inlet. At least one of the mould parts has an arrangement of grooves on the surface facing the mould cavity to distribute resin across the mould cavity. The method includes laying up fibres in the mould cavity, injecting resin from the reservoir by running the suction pump to fill the mould cavity with resin, curing the resin article to form a moulded article and opening the mould and removing the article.

Method and moulding system for manufacturing a fibre-reinforced polymer object via a feedback system for controlling resin flow rate

A method of manufacturing a fibre-reinforced polymer object by means of vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding (VARTM), wherein fibre material is impregnated with liquid resin in a mould cavity comprising a rigid mould part having a mould surface defining an outer surface of the object, is described. One or more pressure sensors are connected to resin inlets of the VARTM system. A control unit is used for controlling a polymer supply unit based on measured resin pressure and is adapted to adjusting a resin flow rate, if pressure measured by the pressure sensors is below a lower threshold level or above a higher threshold level.

Flow aid for infusion structure, infusion structure comprising a flow aid and method for infiltrating fibre material with resin

A flow aid for an infusion structure for infiltrating fiber material with resin to produce a fiber composite component includes a resin-impermeable upper layer and a lower layer which are joined together in a peripheral region of the flow aid and provide a flow space between the two layers. The lower layer provides an outlet for discharging resin out of the flow aid into an interior of the infusion structure. The flow aid includes an inlet for feeding the resin into the flow space, thereby facilitating uniform distribution of the resin over all of the fiber material.

A process for resin transfer molding (RTM) with injection and overflowing of a resin through one or more troughs is provided that includes the injection of resin into a plurality of injection ports feeding the one or more troughs and overflowing the resin in into a mold. The temperature and pressure are controlled as applied to the mold. The injection ports are activated for injecting the resin in any order of individually, in groups, or pairings. A resin transfer molding (RTM) system for performing the process includes a mold having a cavity. A set of injection ports feed one or more continuous channels between the cavity and a reservoir of resin. A numerical controller selectively activates the injection ports to overflow the resin into the cavity in any order of individually, in groups, or pairing.

The invention relates to a device for the infiltration of fibrous material with resin for the production of a fiber composite component, comprising a mold tool with a cavity enclosed by at least two tool parts, wherein the mold tool is designed for a relative movement of the at least two tool parts, in such a manner that space can be provided inside the cavity, in a first tool position, to hold the fibrous material, and additional space can be provided to accommodate resin, and the size of the cavity can then be reduced by a movement of the mold tool from the first tool position into a second tool position. According to the invention, a flow promoter is included in the cavity, comprising at least one first layer and one second layer, connected to each other in an edge region of the flow promoter to enclose a flow space, wherein the first layer is impermeable to resin while the second layer provides an outlet for guiding resin out of the flow space and into the fibrous material, and wherein the flow space of the flow promoter is filled with resin and/or the flow promoter has an inlet for conveying resin into the flow space. The invention further relates to a corresponding infiltration process and to a use of the device and/or the method.

MANUFACTURING CONTROL SYSTEMS AND LOGIC FOR PROGNOSIS OF DEFECTS IN COMPOSITE MATERIALS

Presented are manufacturing control systems for composite-material structures, methods for assembling/operating such systems, and transfer molding techniques for predicting and ameliorating void conditions in fiber-reinforced polymer panels. A method for forming a composite-material construction includes receiving a start signal indicating a fiber-based preform is inside a mold cavity, and transmitting a command signal to inject pressurized resin into the mold to induce resin flow within the mold cavity and impregnate the fiber-based preform. An electronic controller receives, from a distributed array of sensors attached to the mold, signals indicative of pressure and/or temperature at discrete locations on an interior face of the mold cavity. The controller determines a measurement deviation between a calibrated baseline value and the pressure and/or temperature values for each of the discrete locations. If any one of the respective measurement deviations exceeds a calibrated threshold, a void signal is generated to flag a detected void condition.
