Disclosed are preforms which incorporate improvements in the region of the neck and upper segment of the body to allow the production of lightweight containers, such as bottles suitable for containing water or other beverages. In accordance with certain embodiments, the improvements include a thinner neck finish area than conventional bottles, where the thinner area is extended into the upper segment of the body portion below the support ring. Reducing the thickness in these areas of the bottle allows for less resin to be used in forming the preform and bottle.

A process includes: supplying a main resin from outer and inner flow channel, to a joined flow channel at a predetermined supply velocity for a predetermined time; supplying a second resin from a middle flow channel to the joined flow channel simultaneously with the main resin at a predetermined supply velocity for a certain time within the predetermined time; and sliding a shut-off pin to bring the pin forefront to a predetermined position near an outlet of the inner flow channel, open to the joined flow channel, before the second resin is supplied, or during a time starting after a time from the start of the second resin supply and ending with the termination of the supply, so that the velocity of main resin supply from the inner flow channel to the joined flow channel is reduced to a predetermined level by adjusting the degree of aperture for the outlet.
Threaded Tamper Evidence Finish and Closure for Container
A tamper evidence container is provided for sealing contents within an interior of a container formed by blow-molding a container preform. The container includes threads disposed around a neck portion to threadably engage a cap with the finish of the container. The threads advantageously engage with similar threads within the cap for sealing contents within the container. Between the threads is a valley that extends inwardly to form an inner edge on the outside wall of the container finish. The inner edge of the valley has a diameter that is equal and/or greater than the diameter of the handling valley immediately above the tamper evidence ledge. In an exemplary embodiment, the valley has a diameter that is equal to the diameter of the handling valley. In another exemplary embodiment, the diameter of the valley is greater than the handling valley between the tamper evidence ledge and the threads.

LIGHTWEIGHT POLYMERIC CONTAINER FINISH
A polymeric container including a base, a body, a finish, finish threads, and a tamper lip. The finish threads are at an outer surface of the finish, and are configured to cooperate with closure threads of a closure to secure the closure to the finish. The tamper lip extends from the outer surface of the finish, and is configured to replace the support flange during handling, and to cooperate with a tamper band of the closure. A recess is below the tamper lip. The recess retains the tamper band below the tamper lip when the closure is removed from cooperation with the finish. A gripper pad is between the finish threads and the tamper lip. The gripper pad is configured to cooperate with a gripper for grasping the finish.
CONTAINER PREFORM WITH STEPPED INTERIOR FINISH
A finish portion of a preform for rotatably engaging with a closure to seal pressurized contents within an interior of a container formed from the preform. The finish portion includes a cylindrical body that begins at an opening to the interior. The cylindrical body has a base surface, threads extending from the base surface, a tamper evidence ledge, and a handling surface disposed between the threads and the tamper evidence ledge. A stepped interior includes a graduated narrowing of the cylindrical body between the base surface and the handling surface.
THREADED TAMPER EVIDENCE FINISH AND CLOSURE FOR CONTAINER
A tamper evidence closure is provided for rotatably engaging with a finish of a container to seal contents within the interior of the container. A multiplicity of thin connections attach a tamper evidence band to a circumference of the tamper evidence closure. A segmented cam extends around the circumference of the tamper evidence band. An angled lower surface of the cam facilitates passing the tamper evidence band over a tamper evidence ledge of the finish during assembly of the tamper evidence closure onto the container. An upper surface of the cam engages with the tamper evidence ledge to break the thin connections and retain the tamper evidence band positioned on the finish during loosening of the tamper evidence closure. Multiple overhang portions above the cam press against an upper portion of the tamper evidence ledge to ensure that the tamper evidence band remains engaged with the tamper evidence ledge.

A preform for biaxial stretching blow molding. The preform being formed into a closed-end cylinder by direct blow molding and which is to be shaped into a container using a pressurizing liquid medium. The preform has either a single-layer or a multilayer structure constituted of one of a polyethylene resin having an MFR of 1.0-1.5 g/10 min. or a polypropylene resin having an MFR of 0.8 to 2.3 g/10 min.
LIGHTWEIGHT PLASTIC CONTAINER AND PREFORM
A plastic container is provided that includes a hollow body portion including a lower supporting base portion; a sidewall portion extending upwardly from the base portion; and a neck portion extending upwardly from the sidewall portion. The neck portion includes a support flange having an upper and lower surface, at least one thread, and a dispensing opening at the top of the neck portion. In embodiments, a closure may be provided to form an assembly. In embodiments, the container may be comprised of PET, the weight of the neck portion from the lower surface of the support flange to a top of the dispensing opening may be 3.0 grams or less, and/or the vertical distance from the top of the dispensing opening to the lower surface of the support flange may be 0.580 inches or less. A preform and method for making a container are also disclosed.
