Provided are a method and device for forming a cylindrical member for accurately forming belt-like members into a cylindrical shape without meandering. A pre-winding position sensor detects a position of a member reference line extending in a longitudinal direction of a belt-like member along the entire length of the belt-like member in the longitudinal direction thereof before the belt-like member is placed on a transport conveyor belt, transported to a forming drum, and wound around the forming drum. The belt-like member is wound around the forming drum and formed in a cylindrical shape while the forming drum is relatively moved in the drum width direction with respect to the transport conveyor belt by a controller and the member reference line, based on the detected data and a position data of the drum reference line orthogonal to the drum axial center of the forming drum.

At least one of the gripping pads mounted in a movable manner with respect to the adjacent pads between a position in which all of the pads are located in a single plane and a second position in which at least said pad is vertically offset with respect to the adjacent pads to adapt the profile of said transverse row of pads to the curved profile of the meridian line of said second laying surface.

When the terminal end of the elongate element wound on a first reel leaves said first reel, the method provides for: the first reel to be moved away from the unwinding device on a first movable carriage; a second reel, successive to the first reel, and mounted on a second movable carriage, to be positioned in place of the first reel; and the terminal end of the elongate element previously wound on the first reel, to be joined to the starting end of the elongate element wound on the second reel.
Uniformity improvement through discrete effect identification
Systems and methods for improving the uniformity of a tire by separating uniformity contributions associated discrete effects, such as effects resulting from product joints, from continuous effects are provided. For instance, uniformity contributions associated with the product joints are determined by analyzing a uniformity waveform to process the uniformity waveform into one or more continuous components and at least one joint component. Knowledge of the uniformity contributions associated with product joints in the tire can be used, for instance, to make structural improvements in the manufacture of the tire, to actively manage the joint-making process, and to perform dynamic correction of joint effects.

Disclosed is a strip applicator, a strip-winding station and method for applying a strip to a strip-winding drum, wherein the strip applicator includes an applicator member applying the strip to the strip-winding drum at an application position and a supply section receiving the strip in an input direction at a supply position and supplying the strip to the applicator member in an output direction. The applicator member is movable in an offset direction transverse to the output direction to offset the application position relative to the supply position. The supply section has an input member at the supply position for receiving the strip in the input direction and an output member for outputting the strip to the applicator member in the output direction. The output member is movable relative to the input member from a start position towards an offset position in the offset direction.
