LAMINATED GLAZING

A laminated glazing comprising first and second sheets of glass joined together by an interlayer structure comprising at least first and second layers of adhesive interlayer material with a support sheet therebetween is disclosed. The laminated glazing is arranged such that the first layer of adhesive interlayer material is between the first sheet of glass and the support sheet, the second layer of adhesive interlayer material is between the second sheet of glass and the support sheet support material and at least a portion of the second major surface of the first sheet of glazing material faces the first major surface of the second sheet of glazing material. In the event of breakage of the first sheet of glass, the second layer of adhesive interlayer material remains attached to the support sheet thereby keeping the second glass sheet from becoming detached from the laminated glazing.

A vehicle glazing (10) wherein a light guide stack (22) is located between a portion of the inner transparency (26) and the outer transparency (28). The light guide stack includes a polycarbonate film (32) that is bonded to the transparencies by layers of PET (38, 40) that are secured to the polycarbonate film on one side by silicone (34, 36) and that are secured to the transparencies on the other side by PVB (42, 44). The terminal end of an extending tab of the polycarbonate film forms an edge that is connected to a light bar (14) that such visible light propagates through the light bar and into the polycarbonate film through the edge. Visible light propagates through etchings in the smooth surface of the polycarbonate film to form an image. An extension of one of the transparencies protects the polycarbonate tab and supports the light bar during installation of the glazing into the vehicle portal.

FILM

A film contains an electrically actuated liquid having variable optical opacity under the influence of an electric field. The film comprises first and second spaced apart substrates defining a first cavity therebetween in which some or all of the liquid is contained. The film also comprises a liquid trap in fluid communication with the first cavity via a first opening. The liquid trap contains liquid that may flow from the first cavity through the first opening due to the volume of first cavity decreasing. The film may be included in a laminated glazing. A method of preparing a cell for a liquid is also described, and such a cell may be part of a film having variable optical opacity.
