A liquid discharge apparatus includes a head array including heads each having nozzles to discharge liquid onto a recording medium, arranged as a nozzle line in a sub-scanning direction; a moving part to move the head array alternately in the scanning direction and in the sub-scanning direction perpendicular to each other while discharging or not discharging the liquid; and a controller including a memory and a processor. The processor adjusts image data for juncture areas of two heads adjacent to each other in the sub-scanning direction; and drives the head array to discharge the liquid from the nozzles while the moving part moves the head array. The adjusting adjusts the image data such that the image data is thinned to make print rates for the juncture areas smaller at ends of the nozzle lines, and the print rates vary among the juncture areas.

In response to determining that a code image is to be formed such that a particular direction is same as a scanning direction, a controller performs divided recording processing of controlling a head and a carriage to: (a) record a plurality of first portions with liquid ejected from the head during a first movement of the head in the scanning direction; and (b) record a plurality of second portions with liquid ejected from the head during a second movement of the head in the scanning direction. The plurality of second portions are located at an at least partially different position from the plurality of first portions with respect to a conveyance direction. The second movement is a movement in a direction opposite the first movement. The second movement is performed after the first movement without performing conveyance processing between the first movement and the second movement.

A controller extracts an image resolution in a first direction of image data stored in a memory; determines, based on the image data, whether a code image is included in an image to be printed on a recording medium, the code image being formed with a plurality of print regions and a plurality of non-print regions; in response to determining that the code image is included, determines whether a print resolution in the first direction is lower than the extracted image resolution in the first direction; in response to determining that the print resolution is lower than the extracted image resolution, updates the print resolution in the first direction with a value equal to or higher than the extracted image resolution in the first direction; and controls a print engine to perform printing on the recording medium with the updated print resolution in the first direction.

INK DISCHARGE DEVICE, PRINTING DEVICE, AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING INK DISCHARGE DEVICE

The head (8) of an ink discharge device (1) discharges ink into a recording medium being conveyed. A movement unit (12) moves the head (8) in the height direction (Z-axis direction) when the printing surface of the recording medium is set as the front surface. A controller (10) sets a discharge time gap, which is the gap between the nozzle (81) and the printing surface during ink discharge, in accordance with the image to be printed and the recording medium. The controller (10) causes the movement unit (12) to move the head in the Z-axis direction so as to reach the set discharge interval.
