There is provided a liquid discharge apparatus. A print head includes a nozzle that discharges a liquid. A recovery unit includes a cap that caps the nozzle and a pump that suctions a liquid from the nozzle via the cap, and discharges to a waste liquid tank that accommodates a waste liquid of suctioned liquid. A control unit causes the recovery unit to execute at least one of a first recovery operation, in which the suction pump is driven at a first driving amount, or a second recovery operation, in which the pump is driven at a second driving amount smaller than the first driving amount, based on an amount of waste liquid discharged to the waste liquid tank.

A liquid discharge apparatus includes heads to discharge a liquid; caps to contact and move away from the plurality of heads, respectively; individual drain passages communicating with the plurality of caps, respectively; at least one common drain passage communicating with at least two of the individual drain passages; suction devices provided in the individual drain passages, respectively; and a controller. Each of the individual drain passages is to allow and shut off communication between the cap and the common drain passage. The controller causes the individual drain passage to allow the communication between the cap and the common drain passage when performing capping and decapping of the head. The controller caps the sucking target with the cap after shutting off each individual drain passage communicating with the cap corresponding to the head that is not a sucking target.

Printing apparatus

There is provided with a printing apparatus. An ink tank stores ink to be supplied to a printhead configured to eject ink. An ink supply path supplies ink from the ink tank to the printhead. A conveying unit conveys a print medium to the printhead. A cover member is arranged so as to be able to open and close with respect to the printing apparatus. A manual valve is arranged in a region through which the print medium conveyed by the conveying unit passes and can be switched between an opening state in which the ink tank and the printhead communicate and a closing state. An operating portion is arranged at a position which is exposed when the cover member is opened and can be operated to switch the manual valve.

A recording apparatus includes a recording head having discharge ports for discharging a liquid, a cap configured to cap the discharge ports, a switching unit configured to switch between a communication state where an inside of the cap communicates with the atmosphere and a non-communication state where the inside of the cap does not communicate with the atmosphere, and a depressurization unit configured to depressurize the inside of the cap. After driving of the depressurization unit is started while the cap is at a capping position for capping the discharge ports and is in the non-communication state, the switching unit switches the cap to the communication state and then the driving of the depressurization unit is stopped. Idle suction is performed by driving the depressurization unit while the cap is at the capping position and is in the communication state.

An inkjet printing apparatus having a printhead assembly comprises a plurality of printing heads on each of which there is defined a nozzle orifice surface having a row of nozzle orifices through which ink is ejected. The printing apparatus includes a cleaning station comprising a cleaning head array, a plurality of cleaning heads mountable on the cleaning head array and a purge tray. Ambient air is forced under vacuum into a flow channel within each cleaning head such that highly focused fluid flow is generated at the orifice surface when the flow volume impinges the profiled exterior of a vacuum outlet port provided on each cleaning head producing sufficient shear forces to remove accumulated ink and debris from the nozzle orifice surface. The invention also relates to improved cleaning heads, an array of heads in a cleaning station assembly and a method of cleaning nozzle orifice surfaces.
