The center lug grooves each include: two end groove portions opening to the innermost circumferential main grooves and one center groove portion that extends between the end groove portions, has at least a part disposed on a tire equator line, and has an angle θ.sub.1 with respect to the tire equator line satisfying −45°≤θ.sub.1≤+15°.

The predetermined region T is a region in a portion outside the ground contact end in the tire width direction and is defined between the ground contact end and a location spaced apart from the ground contact end by a distance corresponding to 8% or more and 15% or less of a width from the ground contact end to the other ground contact end in the tire width direction. The predetermined direction forms an angle of 0 degrees or more and 35 degrees or less with respect to a circumferential direction of the tire.

A tire mold segment containing a mold surface with a plurality of groove forming and sipe forming protrusions arranged to form tread portions of tires. At the end faces of the tire mold segment, the portion of sipe forming protrusions with an end that terminates at or near the mold segment end face have an increased width to provide a countermeasure against irregular tread wear and tire noise. The sipe forming protrusions having an end that terminates at or near a tire mold segment end face have a width of about 0.7 mm or more. The remaining sipe forming protrusions positioned on the tire mold segment can a reduced thickness to accommodate high sipe density tread designs.

The tire comprises a tread, wherein a cap rubber layer of an outer surface of the tread is formed of a rubber composition comprising a rubber component having a total content of 90% by mass or more of an isoprene-based rubber and a butadiene rubber and silica having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N.sub.2SA) of 180 m.sup.2/g or more, wherein a total cis content in the butadiene rubber is less than 90% by mass, wherein a tan δ at 70° C. of the rubber composition of the cap rubber layer is less than 0.15, wherein the tread has circumferential grooves extending continuously in a tire circumferential direction and lateral grooves extending in a tire width direction, and wherein a ratio of a total area S2 of the lateral grooves to a total area S1 of the circumferential grooves (S2/S1) is less than 0.80.
