Embodiments of a car seat include an outer protective shell, an inner seat, a suspension system connecting and permitting relative movement between the inner seat and the outer protective shell. The suspension system may include a plurality of plastically deformable suspension elements. Also, embodiments of a car seat system include a frame constructed to couple to a vehicle seat. The frame and/or the car seat may have a plastically deformable energy absorbing element extending outwardly to absorb energy, such as from a side impact. The frame may include tubular members filled with reinforcing material. The frame may have a connection arrangement with the car seat to restrict connection of the car seat so that it can only be installed in predefined orientations relative to the frame. The car seat may have a harness that includes a bolster panel or straps to limit movement of an occupant in the car seat.

In one embodiment, a vehicle seat includes a seating portion and a seat back extending from the seating portion. The seat back defines a rear facing surface and a recessed area formed in the rear facing surface. The recessed area extends from an upper surface of the seat back toward a central portion of the seat back. The recessed area defines a void between the vehicle seat and a child seat positioned proximate to the seat back.

A computer includes a processor and a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to identify a child seat mounted to a vehicle seat and, then, to rotate the vehicle seat to a forward position.

A seat base, for a child safety seat, adapted to be secured with a safety belt of a vehicle, includes a base member configured to be placed on a seat of the vehicle, and a positioning element rigidly attached to the base member. The positioning element extends vertically from the base member. The positioning element an engaging member adapted to engage with the safety belt. The engaging member is coupled to the positioning element above the upper surface of the base member at a distance, and the engaging member is kept by the positioning element at the distance from the base member. A child safety seat including such a seat base is also provided.

A child safety seat includes a seat shell having a seat region for receiving a child, two extension parts and a locking mechanism. The two extension parts are respectively disposed at a left and a right side of the seat region, are connected with the seat shell, and are coupled to each other via a linking assembly. The two extension parts are movable together relative to the seat shell to protrude forward from a front of the seat shell or retract toward the seat shell, the two extension parts being disconnected from each other at the front of the seat shell. The locking mechanism is operable to lock the two extension parts in position relative to the seat shell.

A child restraint includes an infant carrier having a carry handle. The infant carrier may be mounted on a stroller frame or on a vehicle seat or may be carried by a caregiver after separation from the stroller frame or vehicle seat.

The invention relates to a child safety seat for fastening to a vehicle seat, said child safety seat having a seat element, a backrest element, a first side element with a first inflatable air chamber, and a second side element with a second inflatable air chamber. The first side element is connected to a first longitudinal edge of the backrest element and a first longitudinal edge of the seat element, and the second side element is connected to a second longitudinal edge of the backrest element and a second longitudinal edge of the seat element. The invention relates to a foot prop adapted to be attached to a child safety seat, comprising an elongate component, comprising an upper portion and a lower portion, wherein the lower portion is slidable relative to the upper portion in longitudinal direction of the elongate component. The foot prop is configured such that a force applied in the longitudinal direction causes the lower portion to automatically move away from the upper portion whenever the force exceeds a predetermined threshold, so that the length of the elongate component is increased; and the foot prop is configured such that the lower and the upper portion are releasably blocked against relative movement towards one another. The invention further relates to a seat base and a child safety seat comprising a foot prop.

An car seat that can be quickly attached and detached to a vehicle seat and a stroller. An example embodiment is a car seat that includes a carrier portion, a base portion, and a release handle coupled to the carrier for enabling detachment of the carrier from the base and stroller. The car seat includes a tension arm for releasably clamping a vehicle belt onto the base and tensioning the belt to secure the base portion to a vehicle seat.
