Back Breakover Rate Control Device for HIC/NIJ Damage Reduction

A device for controlling the breakover rate of a seatback in response to a dynamic event (regulating the breakover velocity so as to achieve optimal velocity differential to the impact velocity of a passenger's head impacting with the seatback) is attachable to the seatback and to the seat frame; when a breakover event is triggered, the passage of a head injury criterion (HIC) pin through a controlled traveling slot is impeded by energy absorbing materials selected, e.g. for material composition and structure, to restrict the breakover velocity of the seatback to optimize velocity differential between the breakover velocity and the impact velocity by engaging the HIC pin and deforming at a predetermined deformation rate.

A vehicle seat to be mounted on a vehicle includes a seat cushion and a seat surface lowering mechanism. The seat cushion includes a seat surface on which a waist of an occupant of the vehicle is to be placed. The seat surface lowering mechanism is configured to lower the seat surface in response to either one of an occurrence of a rear-end collision of the vehicle or a sign of the occurrence of the rear-end collision.

A seat installation for a combat vehicle which protects an occupant from the effects of an explosion detonated beneath the vehicle in which breakaway structures are interposed between a seat pan and the vehicle floor which initially rapidly drives the seat up after the explosion, but which quickly breaks away to avoid spinal compression injury. A crushable energy absorbing structures thereafter absorb the floor motion, each structure comprised with a vertical stack of crushable energy absorbing cells which are successively crushed at higher force levels to adapt the seat installation to varying weight occupants. A pivoted foot rest provides spaced above the floor which mitigates injuries to the feet and legs by allowing the feet to avoid contact with the floor and which swing up and away from the floor while avoiding tipping of the seat.

Dual function stowable armrest

An armrest assembly for a vehicle includes a displaceable armrest element and a linkage assembly. The linkage assembly is configured for translating the displaceable armrest element between a deployed configuration and a folded configuration. The linkage assembly includes a spring-actuated pivoting over-center link configured to disengage the linkage assembly to allow the displaceable armrest element to rotate. An actuator is provided which on sensing an impact ruptures a frangible fastener holding the over-center link in a substantially parallel orientation to at least one drive link, thereby allowing the spring-actuated over-center linkage to pivot relative to the at least one drive link.

A seat on which an occupant of a vehicle is seated includes: a backrest that faces a back part of the occupant; a headrest provided in an upper part of the backrest; a backrest frame including side members that extend in an upward-downward direction along left and right side end parts of the backrest; a cross member provided to bridge the left and right side members and attached to the side members to be movable upward and downward; a headrest post that protrudes downward from the headrest and is coupled to the cross member; and a cross member detachment mechanism performs detachment of the cross member from the side members, in accordance with a load toward a rear side of the vehicle input to the cross member. The load triggering the detachment by the cross member detachment mechanism decreases as the cross member rises with respect to the side members.

CONSOLIDATED SEAT BACK BREAKOVER MECHANISM

Described is a breakover mechanism for a passenger seat that includes a frame member with a rear portion attached to two opposing sides of a seat back of the passenger seat wherein the frame member is at least partially disposed under a seat pan of the passenger seat, at least one moving portion attached to a forward portion of the frame member, a carriage portion fixedly attached to the seat pan; and a single point mechanism attached to the carriage portion. Once a threshold loading condition occurs, the single point mechanism changes states to facilitate movement of the moving portion relative to the carriage portion.

INERTIAL BREAKOVER MECHANISM

There is provided a seat break over device. The seat break over device features linkage members that connect the seat back to the quadrant arm. In the static condition, the linkage member acts as a rigid member, constraining rotation of the seat back relative to the quadrant arm. Upon impact of a certain inertial force, the linkage member interacts with a weighted member. The weighted member may include a suspended weight or mass that pivots about a horizontal axis. During a gravity load of a certain amount (e.g., a 16 g event), inertial loads act on the weighted member/hammer, which transfers a force onto the linkage member. This force moves the linkage member into an unstable mode, allowing forward rotation of the seat back with respect to the quadrant arm.

Provided is a vehicle seat which has a simple structure, prevents the lower back region of an occupant from sinking into the seat back, induces backward rotation of the entire upper body when a rear-end collision occurs, and reduces the degree to which the neck region of the occupant independently tilts backward, and is therefore able to effectively reduce the load on the neck region and so on of the occupant. A vehicle seat is provided with a neck-burden reduction element that, during a rear-end collision, causes a greater amount of backward movement of a connection point between the neck region and a torso region of the occupant than the amount of backward movement of a lower torso region of the occupant, and causes an upper torso region of the occupant to sink into the seat back.

COLLISION-RESPONSIVE TRAY TABLE FOR A VEHICLE SEAT

A vehicle includes a seatback having a rear-mounted and rotationally operable tray table selectively operable between a plurality of rotational positions. An actuator is coupled to the seatback and the tray table, wherein in response to a decelerating impact, the actuator applies a generally downward force that biases the tray table toward a safety position against a back surface of the seatback.

A vehicle seat whose state is changeable when a rear load is input to a conveyance includes a rotary member configured to move from an initial position in association with the state change, and a lock pin configured to restrict movement of the rotary member. Where a load on the vehicle seat from an occupant based on the rear load changes according to the occupant's physique, weight, etc., when the load is less than a predetermined value and the rotary member moves from the initial position to reach a first position, the lock pin holds the rotary member at the first position. When the load is equal to or greater than the predetermined value, the rotary member, after having reached the first position, moves toward a second position beyond movement restriction by the lock pin, the second position being apart further from the initial position than the first position.
