DUAL DIRECTION ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND ASSISTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM

A dual direction accident prevention (DDAP) and assistive braking system (ABS) which detects both the risk of a frontal accident and a rear accident and then coordinates braking to prevent both if possible while giving priority to preventing a frontal accident. In the event of an imminent rear collision with an object or vehicle in front of a driver, the system will choose a braking force which minimizes the impact of the rear collision, while determining a safe approach toward the front obstacle. Furthermore, if a vehicle is approaching the driver and an accident is imminent, and there is no further room in front to reduce the effect of the imminent impact, the system prepares the vehicle and driver by bracing for impact by applying emergency brakes, tightening seatbelts, etc.

WHEELCHAIR OCCUPANT RESTRAINT DEVICE

A method for protecting an occupant of a motor vehicle in the case of an imminent collision with a collision object includes: recognizing that a collision with the collision object is imminent, analyzing the collision object and recognizing whether a particularly sensitive upper area of the motor vehicle will be affected by the collision, and at least partially suppressing a trigger signal of a protective mechanism to enable an evasive action by the occupant if it is recognized that the particularly sensitive upper area of the motor vehicle will be affected by the collision that has been recognized to be imminent.

Seatbelt assembly

An assembly includes a base and a seatbelt anchor. The seatbelt anchor has a first end defining a circular hole pivotally supported by the base and a second end fixed in position relative to the first end. The assembly includes a buckle fixed in position relative to the second end. The assembly includes a pyrotechnic actuator secured to the base. The assembly includes a connector extending from the pyrotechnic actuator to the seatbelt anchor.

A method of determining an accident time parameter for evaluating an accident situation of a motor vehicle, including a) determining at least two of the following values: (i) a current value of a measured acceleration, (ii) a first integral of the measured acceleration, or (iii) a second integral of the measured acceleration, and b) determining an accident time parameter from the at least two values determined in step a).

VEHICULAR SEAT BELT DEVICE

A vehicular seat belt device includes a first pretensioner provided in a retractor and configured to apply tensile force to a shoulder belt portion of a webbing, a second pretensioner provided in a belt anchor part and configured to apply tensile force to a lap belt portion of the webbing, a third pretensioner provided in a side portion of the vehicle seat opposite to the belt anchor part and configured to apply tensile force to the lap belt portion via a buckle, and a controller. The controller is configured to activate the first pretensioner at a time of predicting vehicle collision, and activate the second pretensioner and the third pretensioner after detection of collision.

VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT PROTECTION SYSTEM WITH AN ENLARGED FREE SPACE AVAILABLE IN THE VEHICLE INTERIOR

A vehicle with a vehicle seat arranged in the vehicle interior, which is paired with an occupant protection system, which has at least one crash detection sensor system that detects at least one acceleration value in the event of a crash, which influences the vehicle in the event of a crash so that inertial forces act on the vehicle seat connected to the vehicle and on the occupant sitting on the vehicle seat on the basis of an acceleration value, wherein the acceleration value is used for the crash-adaptive specification, over time, of said displacement travel of the occupant secured with a belt system on the vehicle seat. A total displacement travel of the vehicle seat in the travel direction comprises an additional, exclusively crash-active displacement travel adjoining a displacement travel of the vehicle seat for seat length adjustment in the travel direction.

VEHICLE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT DEVICE AND METHOD FOR OPERATING A VEHICLE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT DEVICE
20200189505 · 2020-06-18 ·

The invention describes a vehicle occupant restraint device for the protection of a vehicle occupant (2) in a vehicle seat (6) comprising plural restraining elements and a controller, wherein at least one first restraining element comprises an airbag module (28) including an airbag (22) and at least one second restraining element comprises a seat belt (4) including a belt retractor, with the seat belt (4) being operatively connected with a tensioning unit. The controller includes at least one sensor element for determining the position of the vehicle seat (6) so that, in a situation of restraint, the controller differentiates between a first situation in which the vehicle seat (6) with the vehicle occupant (2) is in a position within the range of a standard position relative to the airbag (22) of the first restraining element, and a second situation in which the vehicle seat (6) with the vehicle occupant (2) is in a position beyond the standard position, and, when the first situation is given, the controller activates the first and second restraining elements only, especially the tensioning unit for tensioning the seat belt (4) of the second restraining element and the airbag (22) of the first restraining element, whereas, when the second situation is given, a third restraining element integrated in the vehicle seat (6) and/or operatively connected with the vehicle seat (6) can be activated and/or connected by the controller so that the vehicle seat (6) is moved initially via the third restraining element to a position within the range of the standard position.
