An inflatable vehicle occupant protection device (14b) includes a front panel (102b) and a rear panel (122b) that are interconnected to at least partially define an inflatable volume (54b) of the protection device. The rear panel (122b) has a conical configuration resulting from portions of the rear panel being interconnected with each other. The rear panel (122b) comprises portions interconnected along a seam (214), the seam being configured to deviate laterally from a deployment direction so that portions of the air bag that engage and move along the seam shift laterally during deployment to reduce damage due to friction with the seam

AIRBAG FOR RETRACTABLE STEERING WHEEL

A restraint system includes a retractable steering wheel, an airbag inflatable from the steering wheel, two primary tethers, two secondary tethers, and a tether release engaged with both secondary tethers. The airbag when inflated includes a front panel adjacent the steering wheel and an impact panel opposite the front panel. The primary tethers extend from the front panel to the impact panel. The secondary tethers extend from the front panel to each primary tether.

AIRBAG DEVICE

An airbag device that can efficiently suppress an injury value for an occupant in an emergency includes a frontal airbag cushion that is expanded at a vehicle front side of a driver's seat and a curtain airbag cushion that is expanded at an outer side of the frontal airbag cushion in a vehicle width direction. The frontal airbag cushion includes an inner bag that is expanded by receiving a gas, inner vents that are disposed in the inner bag to discharge the gas, an outer bag that contains the inner bag therein and is expanded by receiving the gas from the inner vents and outer vents that are disposed in the outer bag to discharge the gas. A distance between the inner bag and the curtain airbag cushion is smaller than a width of a head of an occupant.

A description is given of a bearing unit of a vehicle subassembly, wherein the vehicle subassembly has a vehicle-mounted support, in particular a vehicle steering wheel (10), and a component which is to be fastened on the support, in particular an airbag module. The baring unit comprises at least one adjustable spacer element (14a, 14b, 14c) for orienting the position of the component on the support. Also provided are a bearing unit having a plurality of spacer elements (14a) which can be adjusted independently of one another and a steering wheel subassembly having a vehicle steering wheel (10) and an airbag module, wherein the vehicle steering wheel (10) and the airbag module are connected to each other by the bearing unit. The invention additionally relates to a method for producing a vehicle subassembly having a vehicle-mounted support, a component which is to be fastened on the support and at least one bearing unit.

DEVICE FOR REMOVABLY MOUNTING AN AIRBAG MODULE

A device for removably mounting an airbag module includes at least two hooks connected to one of the airbag module or the steering wheel. The hooks cooperate with insertion elements located on the other of the airbag module or the steering wheel. A resilient ring forms elements for holding the hooks in zones of interaction. The resilient ring includes: first portions that extend in the interaction zones, and a second portion. The mounting device further includes elements for guiding the resilient ring that cause displacement of the first portions out of the zones of interaction, during displacement of the second portion in a direction away from an axis of rotation of the steering wheel.

AIRBAG DEVICE

An actuator of an airbag device includes a main body portion, which is attached to an attachment base, and a cap including a fitting protruding portion that is inserted into a fitting recessed portion of the main body portion. The fitting protruding portion has a holding portion, which is inserted into a holding hole of a coupling member when fitted to the main body portion and holds a leading end portion of the coupling member, and a movement permitting unit that, when a ceiling portion of the cap is subjected to pressure of a combustion gas of a squib, causes the ceiling portion to move, and causes the holding portion to move from a holding position, wherein the holding portion is inserted into the holding hole of the coupling member, to a holding released position, wherein the holding portion is removed from the holding hole.

Driver airbag with extension adjacent rear panel

An assembly for a vehicle includes a steering wheel. The assembly includes an airbag inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag has a main chamber supported by the steering wheel. The main chamber in the inflated position has a rear panel facing the steering wheel, an impact panel opposite the rear panel, and an outermost periphery between the impact panel and the rear panel. The airbag includes an extension having a first end and a terminal end. The extension extends from the first end to the terminal end adjacent the rear panel of the main chamber. The first end extends from the outermost periphery and the rear panel and the terminal end is connected to the rear panel. The airbag has an inflation chamber extending from the main chamber to the terminal end through the first end of the extension.

Method of folding an airbag, airbag, airbag module and vehicle safety system

A method of folding an airbag for a driver airbag module having a front airbag layer connected at least in portions to a rear airbag layer includes flatly spreading the airbag onto a support surface so that the front airbag layer comes to rest on the rear airbag layer. Each of a left-hand lateral airbag portion and a right-hand lateral airbag portion is zigzag folded multiple times in the direction of a longitudinal axis of the airbag. Each of an upper airbag portion and a lower airbag portion is furled in the direction of a transverse axis of the airbag.

AIR BAG MODULE
