LOW MASS PASSENGER AIRBAG
An airbag module including an airbag, comprising an elongated backbone, and an airbag housing having the airbag therein coupled to the backbone. A sleeve is secured about the airbag housing, and coupled to the backbone. The module also includes tubular chute having open ends that receives the elongated backbone, airbag housing, and sleeve therein, wherein the airbag housing restricts expansion of the airbag through the open ends of the tubular chute during deployment of the airbag.

The invention relates to an airbag module (10) for being arranged on an instrument panel (5) comprising a fastening portion (22) provided for being arranged on the instrument panel (5), an inflator (16), an airbag (12), a receiving portion (26) for the airbag (12) extending from the inflator (16) to the fastening portion (22) and a retaining portion (24) which is accessible from outside of the receiving portion (26) and serves for retaining the inflator (16). The invention also relates to a subassembly comprising an instrument panel (5) and an airbag module (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the fastening portion (22) of the airbag module (10) being connected to the instrument panel (5) and a retainer (28) formed separately from the airbag module (10) being provided which is connected to the retaining portion (24) of the airbag module (10).
Vehicle seat bottom with airbag module
A vehicle seat has an airbag module arranged in a seat bottom cushion. The seat bottom cushion is covered by a cover and comprises at least a first, relatively softer, comfort foam element adjacent to the cover and a second, relatively harder or firmer, protective foam element. The airbag module is positioned within a cavity defined in and by the second foam element so that it is at least partially surrounded by the harder second foam to protect the airbag module from downward forces applied to the seat bottom.

The invention relates to an airbag module (10) of a vehicle occupant restraint system, specifically a knee airbag module, comprising a folded inflatable airbag (12) for restraining a vehicle occupant, a module housing (14) which includes a flexible airbag sheath (16) at least partially enclosing the folded airbag (12), and comprising a module cover (18) which includes fasteners (20) for fastening the module cover (18) to the module housing (14), wherein the flexible airbag sheath (16) of the module housing (14) is fixed directly to said fasteners (20), and wherein at least one flexible anchoring element (22, 22) is provided which extends between the folded airbag (12) and the module cover (18) and limits or prevents expansion of the folded airbag (12) toward the module cover (18).

The invention relates to an airbag module assembly (14) for mounting on a steering wheel main part (12), having a driver's airbag module (16) which comprises a folded airbag (18), a gas generator (20) for inflating the folded airbag (18) and a module housing (22) for receiving the gas generator (20) and the folded airbag (18), and a vibration absorber unit (24) which comprises a steering wheel mounting plate (26) for fastening the airbag module assembly (14) on the steering wheel main part (12) and at least one resilient damping element (28), wherein the driver's airbag module (16) is screw-connected, riveted or welded to the steering wheel mounting plate (26) via the at least one resilient damping element (28) in a manner capable of vibrating. The invention furthermore also relates to a vehicle steering wheel (10) having such an airbag module assembly (14) and to a method for producing and quality-testing such an airbag module assembly (14).
Airbag device
An airbag device is provided with a bag-shaped airbag cushion in a prescribed rolled or folded stowed form, and a cover member for covering an outer periphery of the airbag cushion in stowed form formed of a ductile fabric material containing a plurality of polymer fibers. The cover member has a hard portion in a state in which at least a portion of the plurality of polymer fibers are melted together, and a soft portion that bends more readily than the hard portion in which the percentage of the plurality of polymer fibers that are melted is at least lower than that of the hard portion. The airbag device is characterized by a state in which the cover member is bent along the soft portion, covering at least a portion of the outer periphery of the airbag cushion in stowed form.
ROOF RAIL AIRBAG RESTRICTOR WRAP
An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes a curtain airbag having a packaged condition in which the curtain airbag is rolled and/or folded for installation in the vehicle. The curtain airbag is configured to inflate and deploy between the occupant and a side structure of the vehicle. A deployment wrap includes a sheet of material configured as a loop to extend around the curtain airbag in the packaged condition. The deployment wrap is configured to undergo tension in response to inflation of the curtain airbag. The tension acts on the curtain airbag to help control the initial deployment of the curtain airbag. The deployment wrap is rolled up along its length, forming a roll that takes up the material of the deployment wrap and causes the deployment wrap to constrict around the curtain airbag.
