Side airbag device

A side airbag device includes a main bag which is an airbag deployed between a passenger seated on a seat and a side wall portion of a vehicle. The airbag expands by gas supply when a vehicle side collision occurs. The side airbag device also includes a sub bag deployed between a side frame on a vehicle outer side in a seat back of the seat and the passenger. The sub bag expands by supplying gas and pushes a waist portion of the passenger forward from backward, prior to deployment of the main bag, when the vehicle side collision occurs.

The seat allows the occupant to be seated, and is movable in a front-back direction of the vehicle. The sub-airbag is accommodated in an upper part of the seat, and configured to deploy downward from above the occupant. The deployment controller is configured to, when a collision of the vehicle is predicted by the collision predictor, cause the sub-airbag to deploy from the upper part of the seat and subsequently cause the main airbag to deploy.

The main airbag is configured to deploy toward an occupant from a front of the vehicle when the collision predictor predicts a collision of the vehicle. The occupant state detecting device is configured to detect a position of an arm of the occupant. The sub-airbag is configured to deploy toward the arm of the occupant and to swiftly deflate after deployment. The deployment controller is configured to, when the collision predictor predicts a collision of the vehicle, cause the sub-airbag to deploy toward the arm of the occupant detected by the occupant state detecting device and cause the main airbag to deploy after deflation of the sub-airbag.

Side airbag assembly

A restraint system includes a seat having a seatback and a seat bottom extending from the seatback in a seat-forward direction. A first airbag is fixed to the seatback at a side of the seat, and a second airbag is fixed to the seat bottom at the side of the seat. The first and second airbags are each inflatable to an inflated position. The second airbag in the inflated position overlaps the first airbag in the inflated position in a seat-rearward direction.

An airbag system includes a front airbag device that is provided in front of an occupant and that includes a front bag body configured to be deployed by being inflated by a gas being supplied during input of an impact, a door-side guide device that is provided on a door, and that includes a door-side guide member which displaces laterally toward the occupant from an inner side surface of the door during input of the impact and which is configured to guide the occupant toward the front bag body in front, and a console-side guide device provided on a console, and that includes a console-side guide member which displaces upward from an upper surface of the console during input of the impact and which is configured to guide the occupant toward the front bag body in front.

Airbag having knee chamber and upper chamber

An airbag assembly includes an airbag having a knee chamber and an upper chamber. A wall fluidly isolates the knee chamber and the upper chamber. A sleeve extends from the knee chamber through the wall to the upper chamber and fluidly communicates the knee chamber and the upper chamber. A one-way vent is in the sleeve. The one-way vent allows for the knee chamber and the upper chamber to be maintained at different relative pressures.

A vehicle seat includes a seat cushion, a seat back having a side support, a frame sidewall in the side support, and a side airbag device. The side airbag device has an airbag in the side support, and an inflator for supplying a gas to the airbag. The airbag has a first chamber to be deployed toward a vehicle front side, a second chamber, and an inner vent hole at a partition between the first and second chambers. The second chamber starts to be deployed prior to the deployment of the first chamber. The gas flows from the second chamber to the first chamber via the inner vent hole. When the second chamber is deployed, at least one of an upper region or a lower region of the second chamber protrudes toward the vehicle front side than a middle region of the second chamber.

A headliner system includes a plurality of segments connected together and outlining a central opening and a central section received in the central opening. The central section is selected from a group of central sections consisting of a multisection panel incorporating an overhead airbag grid system, a panel incorporating a fold down display panel and a panel incorporating a pull down divider.

The invention describes a vehicle occupant restraint system (2) comprising a control unit and at least two restraint elements (8, 10) for the protection of lower extremities (6, 6′, 7, 7′) in the area of a footwell (4) of a vehicle of a vehicle occupant seated in a particular vehicle seat of the vehicle, wherein a first restraint element (8) is configured as a knee airbag module (12), wherein a second restraint element (10) is provided for mounting into the footwell (4) of the vehicle, especially in an area of the footwell (4) of the vehicle arranged in the vehicle longitudinal direction (x) ahead of the knee airbag module (12), wherein, in a situation of restraint, the control unit can differentiate between different given situations, wherein the given situation can be determined via a vehicle seat position and parameters relating to vehicle occupants, wherein, in the situation of restraint, when a situation is given in which the vehicle seat (5) is in a position shifted backwards, especially in a position shifted backwards compared to the standard position, and the vehicle occupant is a short and/or light person, the control unit only activates the foot airbag module (16) of the second restraint element (10).

OCCUPANT PROTECTION SYSTEM INCLUDING INFLATORS

An occupant protection system for a vehicle may include an expandable curtain and/or an expandable bladder configured to be expanded from a stowed state to a deployed state. The system may also include a transverse ceiling trim panel and one or more side ceiling trim panels configured to be coupled to a ceiling of the vehicle, with the transverse ceiling trim panel extending substantially transversely with respect to the one or more side ceiling trim panels. Portions of the ceiling trim panels may be configured to deflect and allow expansion of the expandable curtain and/or the expandable bladder to the deployed state. The system may also include a deployment controller and one or more inflators configured to cause deployment of the expandable curtain at a first time and deployment of the expandable bladder at a second time after the first time.
