AIRBAG SYSTEMS FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES
Aspects of the disclosure provide for airbag systems suited for autonomous vehicles. Such an airbag system may include a first chamber, a second chamber, a dual-stage inflator, an orifice blocker mechanism and a control module. The dual-stage inflator may be in fluid communication with the first chamber via a first orifice and in fluid communication with the second chamber via a second orifice. The orifice blocker mechanism may be configured to block and unblock gas flow from the second orifice to the second chamber. The control module may be configured to activate the dual-stage inflator in order to inflate one or both of the first chamber and the second chamber with gas based on a position of the orifice blocker mechanism relative to the second orifice.
Selectively inflated crossbar airbag
An assembly for a vehicle includes a first seat and a second seat. The assembly includes a crossbar positioned between the first seat and the second seat. The assembly includes an airbag supported by the crossbar. The assembly includes a controller programmed to position the crossbar in a raised position in response to a detected occupant egress.
SHIPPING CONTAINER INFORMATION RECORDATION TECHNIQUES
System and method for obtaining and recording information about cargo includes a frame defining a cargo-receivable compartment, a position determining system at least partly on the frame and that allows for determination of position of the frame, an identification system on the frame that obtains information about cargo when present in the compartment, a memory component that receives and records information about position and movement of the frame, and the obtained information about cargo when present in the compartment in association with a unique identification of the frame, and a communications system on the frame to enable communication of information to and from the memory component.
REAR SEAT AIRBAG MODULE
A rear vehicle seat airbag module configured to be mounted to a portion of a seat back of a front vehicle seat comprising an inflator and an inflatable cushion comprising a lower portion, an upper portion and an external tether connecting the lower portion and the upper portion. The inflator provides inflation gas to the inflatable cushion and the inflatable cushion is configured to deploy forward of an occupant seated in a rear seat of a vehicle by curving away from the occupant. The external tether is configured to control a trajectory of the deployment of the inflatable cushion by pulling the upper portion toward the lower portion to curve the inflatable cushion such that the upper portion is located above the lower portion.
SIDE AIRBAG APPARATUS
A side airbag apparatus includes an inflator, an airbag body that is configured to be deployed and inflated by inflation gas supplied from the inflator, and an inflated-dimension limiter arranged inside the airbag body. The inflated-dimension limiter is joined to the airbag body by a front joint portion provided at the front end of the inflated-dimension limiter. The inflated-dimension limiter is also joined, by a rear joint portion provided at the rear end of the inflated-dimension limiter, to a portion of the airbag body that is behind a section of the airbag body to which the inflated-dimension limiter is joined by the front joint portion. The dimension between the uppermost end and the lowermost end of the front joint portion is set to be different from the dimension between the uppermost end and the lowermost end of the rear joint portion.
Motor vehicle
A motor vehicle includes a body that forms a vehicle interior, where a front seat row and a rear seat row are formed in the vehicle interior. A rear seat of the rear seat row is disposed adjacent to a side wall of the body and the rear seat has a backrest. A side part of the rear seat is disposed between the backrest and the side wall. An airbag module is disposed in the side part and extends approximately parallel to the backrest and at least over a length of the backrest and an airbag guide sack surrounds the airbag module. The airbag module and the airbag guide sack are fastened to a carrier shell and the carrier shell is attached to the body.
Active bolster
An active bolster for a vehicle is provided, wherein the bolster comprises an expansible hollow interior that is inflatable and is self-supporting in both an inflated and in an uninflated position. The bolster has an inflator module for inflating the expansible hollow interior. The bolster has an inner wall for projecting inwardly into the vehicle and away from the side of the vehicle on inflation of the expansible hollow interior. The bolster may have a relatively non-expansible component located between a first expansible chamber and a second expansible chamber. The bolster may comprise an outer wall having an attachment portion for attaching the outer wall to a portion of the side of the vehicle.
AIRBAG WITH INDIVIDUALLY TUNABLE COMPARTMENTS
An airbag includes a manifold having an outer panel and an inflation chamber defined at least in party by the outer panel. The airbag further includes a first compartment and a second compartment spaced from the first compartment connected to the outer panel and positioned external to the inflation chamber. A first one-way valve is in fluid communication with the manifold and the first compartment, and a second one-way valve is in fluid communication with the manifold and the second compartment.
SIDE AIRBAG WITH INTERNAL DIFFUSER
Side airbags to provide protection to vehicle occupants are provided. The side airbags include an outer skin forming an inflatable chamber having an upper thorax portion and a lower pelvic portion for contact with the thorax region and the pelvic region, respectively, of the associated vehicle occupant. The side airbag includes a loop diffuser for placement about an inflator disposed within the inflatable chamber. The loop diffuser has opposed first and second open ends to permit communication of inflation gas to the upper thorax portion and to the lower pelvic portion, respectively, of the inflatable chamber. The loop diffuser permits significantly greater flow of inflation gas to the lower pelvic portion as compare to flow of inflation gas to the upper thorax portion of the inflatable chamber. The first open end can be significantly smaller in cross section as compared to the second open end.
SEATBACK-MOUNTED REAR AIRBAG ASSEMBLIES
A seatback-mounted rear airbag assembly is disclosed wherein the airbag assembly is mounted forward of an occupant of a rearward vehicle seating position and disposed at least partially within a seatback of a vehicle seating position forward of the occupant. The airbag assembly is disposed partially within the seatback and partially within a headrest whereby a lower attachment and an upper attachment of an inflatable airbag cushion couple the inflatable airbag cushion at multiple points to properly disposed the inflatable airbag cushion forward of the occupant.
