SIDE AIRBAG AND VEHICLE-OCCUPANT RESTRAINT SYSTEM HAVING A SIDE AIRBAG

A side airbag of a vehicle occupant restraint system (10) which is provided to be mounted on a vehicle seat (14) comprises an inflatable head gas cushion (18) and an inflatable torso gas cushion (20) connected to the head gas cushion (18) both of which form separate inflatable compartments of the side airbag (12). The head gas cushion (18) and the torso gas cushion (20) are formed by separate inflatable cushions which are fastened to each other in a connecting section (22). In a vehicle occupant restraint system, the side airbag (12) is mounted on a vehicle seat (14) of a vehicle on the side facing a passenger seat (16) of the vehicle.

An occupant restraint structure (5) includes a steering wheel (300) provided with a grip section (310), an instrument panel (500) having a panel (510) on the side of a driver's seat, and an airbag (410). The grip section (310) has an acyclic shape. The airbag (410) is deployed behind a rear end reference surface (S) that is an end surface of the panel (510) on the side of the driver's seat on a rear side of the vehicle. At least a part of the grip section (310) is disposed further forward with respect to the vehicle than the rear end reference surface (S) of the panel (510) on the side of the driver's seat.

Inflatable blanket for vehicle

An inflatable blanket for a vehicle includes a first blanket layer, a second blanket layer coupled to the first blanket layer, and an airbag disposed between the first blanket layer and the second blanket layer. The airbag has a deflated configuration and an inflated configuration to protect a vehicle occupant when the vehicle is subjected to an external force.

Roof-mounted occupant restraint system

A restraint system is provided for helping to protect first and second occupants of a vehicle having a roof and a cabin with first and second seats for receiving the first and second occupants. The restraint system includes first and second airbags mounted to the vehicle roof. Each of the first and second airbags has a stored condition and is inflatable to a deployed condition aligned with the respective first and second occupants. The deployed first and second airbags are spaced from one another in an inboard-outboard direction. A tether is connected to the first and second airbags for limiting relative inboard-outboard movement between the airbags in response to occupant penetration.

[Problem] To provide an airbag device capable of controlling flow of gas discharged from an inflator. [Resolution Means] The airbag device is an airbag device that expands and deploys in a vehicle passenger compartment of a vehicle and restrains a passenger sitting in a first seat from a side, including: a cushion 41 provided with a horizontal portion 41d that deploys in a horizontal direction of the vehicle in an expanded and deployed state and a protruding portion 41e that deploys in an upward direction of the vehicle from a center portion of the horizontal portion 41d; a diffuser that is secured inside the cushion 41, that is open in the horizontal direction of the vehicle, closed in a downward direction of the vehicle, and partially or entirely closed in a direction toward the protruding portion; and an inflator 42 that is secured to the first seat, provided inside the diffuser, and that discharges gas for expansion and deployment.

Occupant safety systems

Occupant safety systems suitable for use in both traditional and opposed seating systems include various combinations of passive safety components: sensors that provides an output signal indicative of an imminent collision, seats selectively moveable relative to seat support structures in response to the output signal, inflatable restraints deployable from lap portions of a tensioned restraint based on the output signal, airbags deployable from a roof of a vehicle based on the output signal, cabin dividers deployable from a side of a cabin of the vehicle or the roof of the vehicle based on the output signal, and curtain airbags deployable between an occupant and the side of the cabin of the vehicle based on the output signal.

Occupant protection system including inflators

An occupant protection system for a vehicle may include an expandable curtain and/or an expandable bladder configured to be expanded from a stowed state to a deployed state. The system may also include a transverse ceiling trim panel and one or more side ceiling trim panels configured to be coupled to a ceiling of the vehicle, with the transverse ceiling trim panel extending substantially transversely with respect to the one or more side ceiling trim panels. Portions of the ceiling trim panels may be configured to deflect and allow expansion of the expandable curtain and/or the expandable bladder to the deployed state. The system may also include a deployment controller and one or more inflators configured to cause deployment of the expandable curtain at a first time and deployment of the expandable bladder at a second time after the first time.

VEHICLE CENTER AIRBAG

A vehicle center airbag may include a main cushion and a plurality of sub-cushions. The main cushion is mounted on a lateral surface of a seat back and is deployed in a forward direction, being positioned beside a passenger when a side collision occurs. The sub-cushions are configured to communicate with the main cushion and are deployed upwards from the top portion of the main cushion. When the sub-cushions are deployed, they extend in a forward-backward direction of the vehicle and are positioned above the torso of the passenger.

A far side side airbag device provided on the side part in the center in the width direction of a backrest portion SB of either of separated seats arranged in the width direction of a vehicle, which restrains the movement of an occupant P. A cushion and an inflator expands and deploys the cushion. The cushion has a first portion and a second portion that expand and deploy onto the front surface of each of the adjacent separated seats when a signal is received to restrain the occupant and capture the side part of the occupant, and a center portion provided in between the first portion and the second portion. A protruding part is formed on the center portion in order to capture the head of the occupant.
