KNEE PROTECTION AIRBAG DEVICE
A knee protection airbag device includes an airbag. When the air bag is accommodated, an occupant side wall portion and a vehicle body side wall portion are overlapped and expanded flatly and roll-folding is performed such that an upper edge side of a knee receiving portion side approaches a lower edge side of the mounting portion side, end side portions on left and right sides of the roll-folded roll folding portion are formed as folded portions which fold over a central portion near a center in a left-right direction of the roll folding portion to form a folding completed body. A joining between a first overlapping portion and a tip side part of the airbag is released when an inflation gas flows into the airbag and when a fold of a first fold is canceled and the first overlapping portion deviates from a rear area of the central portion.
SELECTIVE DEPLOYMENT OF DEFLECTORS FOR AN AIRBAG
A restraint system for a vehicle includes an instrument panel and an airbag supported by the instrument panel. The restraint system includes a right deflector supported by the instrument panel adjacent the airbag. The right deflector is deployable between a retracted position and a deployed position. The restraint system includes a left deflector supported by the instrument panel adjacent the airbag opposite the right deflector in a cross-vehicle direction. The left deflector is deployable between a retracted position and a deployed position. The restraint system includes a first pyrotechnic device coupled to the right deflector and a second pyrotechnic device coupled to the left deflector.
Adaptive knee airbag
An instrument panel assembly includes an instrument panel. The instrument panel assembly includes an airbag having an inboard chamber and an outboard chamber. A panel separates the inboard chamber and the outboard chamber. A diffuser is in fluid communication with both the inboard chamber and the outboard chamber. A releasable vent is between the diffuser and one of the inboard chamber and the outboard chamber. An inflator is in fluid communication with the diffuser.
Front airbag restraint system for vehicle
A vehicle includes a system including an instrument panel, a knee airbag, and a front airbag assembly. The knee airbag is inflatable downwardly from the instrument panel. The front airbag assembly is inflatable upwardly from the instrument panel. The front airbag assembly may be spaced from a windshield of the vehicle when the front airbag assembly is in the inflated position such that the windshield does not act as a reaction surface for the front airbag assembly, and the front airbag assembly is designed to control the kinematics of the occupant without using the windshield as a reaction surface.
Airbag device
An airbag device 100 includes: an inflator 112 that is provided in a vehicle and capable of supplying gas; and an outer bag 114 that inflates, by using the gas, in a prescribed shape in front of an occupant 134 sitting in a seat 102 of the vehicle. The outer bag 114 includes an outside base fabric 122 forming an outer surface thereof, an opening part 126 provided in a prescribed area of the outside base fabric 122, and an inside base fabric 124 forming an inner peripheral surface thereof recessed in a concave shape from the opening part 126 and inflating so as to protrude partially from the opening part 126 to a side of the seat. In the airbag device 100, the inside base fabric 124 has lower tension than the outside base fabric 122 and restrains the occupant 134.
Airbag cover
A vehicle comprising: an airbag device comprising a housing and an airbag, the airbag having a packed configuration and an expanded configuration, the airbag expanding through the aperture in the housing when moving from the packed configuration to the expanded configuration; a composite material panel positioned to cover the airbag device, the panel comprising a break line running over the panel, the break line being proximal to the aperture so that when the airbag moves to the expanded configuration the airbag forces the panel to tear along the break line; and a first protection flap, the first protection flap having an initial configuration where the first protection flap is located adjacent the airbag in the packed configuration and a deployed configuration where the first protection flap covers at least one edge of the panel that runs along one side of the break line when the panel has torn due to the airbag moving to the expanded configuration.
Knee airbag assemblies
An inflatable knee airbag having a flexible housing is disclosed. An inflatable knee airbag may provide protection for the lower anatomy of an occupant in a vehicle collision event. The disclosed inflatable knee airbag may include components, such as the inflatable airbag cushion, inflator, etc., within a flexible housing supported by a rigid or semi-rigid mounting plate. The flexible housing may conform to the shape of enclosed components, and may support and protect the enclosed components. The flexible housing may be lighter and more cost-effective than conventional housing methods.
Knee airbag module
A knee airbag module of a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises an outer housing (14) in which an airbag (20) folded into an airbag package prior to its deployment as well as an inflator (16) generating filling gas for filling the airbag (20) are accommodated. In the outer housing (14) an exit opening (22) is formed through which the airbag (20) leaves the outer housing (14) during deployment. The airbag (20) is subdivided into plural chambers (28a-28f) arranged in series and being in fluid communication. The chamber closest to the inflator (28a) is separated from an adjacent chamber (28b) by a wall (32) which in the inflated airbag (20) extends substantially in the area of the exit opening (22) along the exit opening (22).
KNEE PROTECTION AIRBAG DEVICE
A knee protection airbag device includes: an airbag that is folded and stored; an inflator configured to supply inflation gas to the airbag; a case that stores the airbag and the inflator; and an airbag cover covering the folded airbag. The airbag cover includes a door portion that covers a protruding opening and can be opened when the airbag is deployed and inflated, and is attached to a peripheral wall portion of the case around the door portion. A recessed groove through which a harness main body can be inserted is formed at a portion of a peripheral edge of the protruding opening in the case so as to recess an end edge of the peripheral wall portion. A bead for reinforcement at a peripheral edge portion of the recessed groove is formed on the peripheral wall portion so as to surround a periphery of the recessed groove.
Airbag device
An airbag device includes an airbag, an airbag case that is made from metal and includes a base wall and a tubular wall, and an airbag cover that is made from synthetic resin and includes a covering wall and a joint wall. The case and cover are coupled together by insertion of hooks of the tubular wall of the case into joint holes of the joint wall of the cover. An approximation-limiting region suppresses the cover as coupled with the case from moving further towards the base wall of the case, and a separation-limiting region suppresses the cover as coupled with the case from moving further away from the base wall of the case. The approximation-limiting region includes an abutment region and a receiving region engageable with the abutment region. The separation-limiting region includes a retaining hole and a projection engageable with an inner surface of the retaining hole.
