Knee protection apparatus in a motor vehicle and knee air bag module for use in such a knee protection apparatus
A knee air bag apparatus having a housing (10) disposed in or adjoining a lower region of an instrument panel (I) extending from front to rear having an outlet opening (16). An inflator and a knee air bag (30) are mounted in the housing (10) in the initial state, and in an expanded state deploys in front of the instrument panel (I). The air bag outer skin has a protective section (32) and a fill and support section (36). The protective section (32) when expanded state is positioned, in front of the instrument panel (I). To improve deployment behavior, the fill and support section (36) features a vehicle-front section (38) such that with the knee air bag (30) fully expanded, the front section extends beyond the vehicle front end of the housing (10) in the direction of the vehicle front (FIG. 1).
Knee airbag with receiving pockets
A knee airbag includes a front panel, a rear panel and first and second tethers. The first tether is between the panels and defines an outboard chamber. The second tether is between the panels and defines an inboard chamber. The tethers cooperatively define a center chamber. The chambers, in an inflated position, are substantially vertical and parallel. The inboard chamber is thinner than the other chambers. In the inflated position, the tethers respectively define first and second knee-receiving pockets.
Air bag module
The invention relates to an airbag module comprising a housing (14) for an airbag (16) and a cover (12), the housing including a fabric part (14) which at least partly encloses the airbag (16), characterized in that means (20; 30; 60) for fastening the housing (14) which are formed integrally with the cover (12) are provided and in that the fabric part (14) is arranged directly on the fastening means (20; 30; 60).
KNEE AIR BAG APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR FOLDING THE SAME
A method for folding a knee airbag may include: folding both sides of an airbag cushion a plurality of times, and fixing the folded portion of the airbag cushion; forming a roll folding part by rolling one side of the airbag cushion of which both sides are folded a plurality of times; and folding the other side of the airbag cushion toward the roll folding part, with the roll folding part formed at the one side of the airbag cushion, and fixing the other side of the airbag cushion.
Seat assembly
A seat assembly includes a first bolster and a second bolster spaced from each other. The seat assembly includes a seat bottom between the first and second bolster. The seat assembly includes a bridge deployable to a deployed position. The bridge in the deployed position is spaced from the seat bottom. The bridge in the deployed position is supported on the first and second bolsters and extends from the first bolster to the second bolster. The seat assembly includes an inflatable device supported by the bridge.
Knee airbag for a vehicle
A knee airbag includes a front panel, rear panel coupled to the front panel to define an inflation chamber, and an intermediate panel between the front panel and the rear panel and within the inflation chamber. The intermediate panel is connected to the front panel and the rear panel at various locations between a proximal end and a distal end of the intermediate panel to control an inflated configuration of the knee airbag. First and second suspension portions suspend the proximal end of the intermediate panel between the front panel and the rear panel and are permeable to the passage of inflation gases. The first suspension portion extends between the front panel and the proximal end of the intermediate panel. The second suspension portion extends between the rear panel and the proximal end of the intermediate panel. An inflator for inflating the knee airbag is disposed in the inflation chamber at a proximal end of the knee airbag. An inflation gas diffusing arrangement is disposed in the inflation chamber between the inflator and the proximal end of the intermediate panel.
OCCUPANT LEG RESTRAINT DEVICE
Provided is an occupant leg restraint device suitable for restraining legs of an occupant when an automobile has an oblique collision. An occupant leg restraint device 1 has an airbag 4 that inflates in front of legs of an occupant in a front seat of an automobile, and an inflator 5 for supplying gas to the lower part of the airbag 4 to inflate the airbag 4. The airbag 4 has a first pane 11 on the occupant side and a second panel 12 on the side opposite thereto. A plurality of pockets 60 recessed from the first panel 11 in the direction away from the occupant are provided in the upper part of the airbag 4. Knees N of the occupant enter the pockets 60, and fit into and engage with the pockets 60, and the lateral movement of the knees N is thereby restrained.
PASSENGER PROTECTION DEVICE FOR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT
A passenger protection device for a front passenger seat includes: an upper airbag that is installed in a front header of a vehicle, and is configured to inflate and deploy at a time of a frontal collision of the vehicle so as to be supported by a windshield from a front side of the vehicle; and a lower airbag that is provided separately from the upper airbag and installed at a front end of a vehicle cabin below the windshield in a vehicle height direction, the lower airbag being configured to inflate and deploy at the time of the frontal collision so as to be supported by a dashboard including an instrument panel from the front side of the vehicle.
VEHICLE KNEE AIRBAG DEVICE AND KNEE AIRBAG FOLDING METHOD
A vehicle knee airbag device includes a protruding profile section configuring an instrument panel, a position of the protruding profile section being configured to be at a vehicle upper side than knees of a seated occupant, an upright wall section provided adjacent to a vehicle lower side of a lower wall of the protruding profile section, and a knee airbag module including a knee airbag. The knee airbag includes an occupant-side base cloth portion disposed on an occupant-facing side and a non-occupant-side base cloth portion disposed on a non-occupant-facing side of the knee airbag in an inflated and deployed state, the non-occupant-side base cloth portion being disposed adjacent to the upright wall section in the inflated and deployed state of the knee airbag.
Airbag device mounted on dashboard
An airbag device mounted on dashboard, comprising an inflatable bag and a gas generator arranged inside a dashboard; wherein upon being filled with gas, the inflatable bag is provided with an upper convex chamber, a lower convex chamber and a concave chamber formed by a pull strap between the upper convex chamber and the lower convex chamber; rear of the upper convex chamber and the lower convex chamber are supported against a dashboard surface; and front of the upper convex chamber and the lower convex chamber form a protective surface. The inflatable bag of the airbag device has a reduced volume, and the gas generator matching the inflatable bag has a reduced output. Moreover, the inflatable bag can maintain the scope and effect of protection to occupant due to its adequate energy absorption ability.
