Airbag apparatus for vehicle

An airbag apparatus for a vehicle may include an airbag cushion configured to be provided with a vent hole for discharging inflation gas therein to the outside; a flap configured to have an external circumferential surface partially coupled to the airbag cushion along a rim of the vent hole; and a tether configured to have one end portion penetrating through the vent hole of the airbag cushion to be coupled to an internal side surface of the flap and be partially supported on an internal side surface of the airbag cushion to pull the flap when the airbag cushion is fully deployed, to close the vent hole and release a tensile force when the airbag cushion is loaded to deploy the flap outwardly of the airbag cushion by the inflation gas, to open the vent hole.

Passenger side airbag

An airbag includes at least one panel defining an interior of the airbag, a divider positioned in the interior so as to divide the interior into an upper chamber and a lower chamber, and at least one tethering mechanism positioned within the lower chamber. The at least one tether mechanism is structured and attached to the at least one panel so as to restrict movement of a portion of the at least one panel during airbag inflation such that a first recess is formed along an exterior surface of the airbag when the airbag is inflated.

Adaptive knee airbag for vehicle occupant restraint device

A knee airbag for a vehicle occupant restraint device can adopt a deployed position of use between a fixed vehicle component and the legs of a vehicle occupant. The airbag includes an airbag sheath, at least one exhaust orifice formed therein and control features for selectively releasing the exhaust orifice. The control features are disposed inside the knee airbag and arranged so as to release or block the exhaust orifice depending on the expansion of the knee airbag in a particular direction of expansion.

Airbag assembly with tethered reaction surface and cushion configured to permit forward head rotation

An airbag assembly is configured for mounting above an occupant in a vehicle. The example airbag assembly includes an airbag housing that is configured to enclose an airbag cushion when the airbag cushion is in an uninflated state. The airbag cushion is connected to the airbag housing and is configured to project outward from the airbag housing when the airbag cushion inflates from the uninflated state to an inflated state. The example airbag assembly also includes a tether connected at a first attachment point and connected to the airbag cushion at a second attachment point. The first attachment point is located horizontally closer to the occupant than the second attachment point when the airbag cushion is in the inflated state such that the tether limits movement of the airbag cushion in a direction away from the occupant.

AIRBAG ASSEMBLY CONFIGURED TO BE STORED UNDER A VEHICLE SEAT AND TO PROVIDE A BACK-OF-LEG REACTION SURFACE WHEN DEPLOYED

An airbag assembly according to the present disclosure includes an airbag cushion, a cushion mount configured to mount the airbag cushion under a seat of a vehicle, and an inflator configured to inflate the airbag cushion. The airbag cushion is configured to project toward a floor of the vehicle and at least partially fill a space between a bottom surface of the seat and the floor of the vehicle when the airbag cushion is inflated to provide a reaction surface for a back surface of a leg of a passenger in the seat.

VEHICLE AIRBAG

An airbag assembly includes a housing and an airbag. The airbag is supported by the housing and includes a vent. The airbag assembly includes a tether supported by the housing and fixed to the vent. The airbag assembly includes a tether release operatively coupled to the tether. The airbag assembly includes a tether retractor supported by the housing and fixed to the tether.

STITCHING FOR A PROTECTION DEVICE

In one example, an apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device having a deflated condition and an inflated condition. The protection device includes a first panel having a centerline and first and second openings. A second panel is secured to the first panel to define an inflatable volume. First and second self-adaptive vents are secured to the first panel over the first and second openings on opposite sides of the centerline for selectively releasing inflation fluid from the inflatable volume in response to penetration of the occupant into the protection device. A first reinforcing stitching extends through the first panel and around a portion of the first self-adaptive vent. A second reinforcing stitching extends through the first panel and around a portion of the second self-adaptive vent. Each of the first and second reinforcing stitchings is spaced entirely from the respective first and second self-adaptive vents.

AIRBAG DEVICE

An airbag device which contributes to reducing an impact on an occupant, while minimizing a loss in inflation gas. The airbag includes first and second inner tethers each having a front panel coupled to a stationary portion around the inflator and a rear panel coupled to an occupant side of the airbag to control a shape into which the airbag is deployed. First and second vent holes are formed on left and right sides of the airbag, first and second opening/closing members capable of opening/closing the first and second vent holes, a first opening/closing tether having an opening/closing end portion coupled to the first opening/closing member and a coupled end portion coupled between the front panel and the rear panel of the first inner tether. A second opening/closing tether having an opening/closing end portion coupled to the second opening/closing member and a coupled end portion coupled between the front panel and the rear panel of the second inner tether. When the airbag is in a fully deployed state, under tension of the first and second opening/closing tethers, the first and second vent holes are closed by the first and second opening/closing members. When the occupant moves into the airbag, at least one of the first and second inner tethers is deformed (warped or bent) to move at least one of the first and second opening/closing tethers toward the corresponding vent hole and cause at least one of the first and second opening/closing members to open the corresponding vent hole.

An airbag device includes: an airbag having an exhaust hole capable of discharging a part of the inflation gas introduced therein upon opening; and an opening/closing control device capable of controlling opening/closing of the exhaust hole. The airbag has: a flexible bag main body; a discharge part having the exhaust hole; and a coupling member. Peripheral edges of a pair of peripheral wall constituting parts are joined to form the bag main body and the discharge part. Discharge part forming portions, which constitute the discharge part, partially protrude in the peripheral wall constituting parts, respectively. An opening, which constitutes the exhaust hole, is formed in a region, which is closer to a tip end-side of the discharge part than seal parts crimped to each other when the discharge part is pulled into the bag main body.
