A steering device (1) installed in a vehicle is equipped with: a steering wheel (10); a steering shaft (20) having a first shaft part (21), one end of which is directly connected to the steering wheel (10), and a second shaft part (22) connected to the first shaft part (21) on the other end side thereof; a coaxial motor (50) which applies a rotational force to the first shaft part (21), and has a motor housing (51) which supports the steering shaft (20) and surrounds the periphery of the first shaft part (21); and a motor securing unit (70) which, in order to determine the support position of the steering wheel (10), secures the motor housing (51) and a support bracket (60) secured inside the vehicle compartment.

Steering column comprising a cradle (21) mounted tilting on the body of the vehicle and receiving, in a deformable bearing (22), a sleeve (2) provided with a tube bearing the steering wheel.

A clamping device (3) comprising a manoeuvring lever (32) bearing a clamping axle (31) and pressed against a bearing block (34) by a ramp connection (341) and by an escutcheon (33) with teeth (331).

The bearing block (34), has a ramp (341) for each tooth (331) ending in a stop (343) projecting into the circular segments (335) between two teeth (331). One of the teeth (331) has, on its unclamping side, a damping element (334).

Steering column with adjustment of the longitudinal extension and inclination of the steering wheel comprising a sleeve (4) borne by a deformable bearing (2) provided with a clamping mechanism composed of a clamping axle (51).

The deformable bearing (2) has two lateral limbs (21) connected by a cross-member formed of two inclined facets (22) joined by a bottom (23). The two lateral limbs (21) each form a first lateral bearing surface (7a, 7b) close to the end of the limb (21) and the two inclined facets (22) each form a second inclined lateral bearing surface (7c, 7d) opposite the first lateral bearing surfaces (7a, 7b), the bottom (23) forming an intermediate bearing surface (7e) between the two inclined lateral bearing surfaces (7c, 7d).

The clamping axle (51) passes through the end of the two lateral limbs (21) beyond the first two lateral bearing surfaces (7a, 7b).

A device for assembling a column tube (30) in an adjustable steering column assembly (20), comprising a spacer portion (70) adapted to provide rotational damping; provide damping during adjustment of the steering column assembly (e.g., telescope adjustment); and assist in centering the column tube when in an unlocked position and assist in resisting lash, The device further comprises a stop bracket portion (50) adapted to limit rotational travel of the column tube when in an unlocked position; and retain the column tube longitudinally within the steering column assembly.
