A steering column includes an adjusting unit that is fixedly clampable releasably to a supporting unit and in which a steering spindle is mounted rotatably about a longitudinal axis, a clamping device with a release position and a fixing position for locking the adjusting unit to the supporting unit, a clamping bolt arranged along a clamping axis and guided transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis through an elongated hole in the supporting unit extending in an adjustment direction and in which the clamping bolt in the release position is movable. A fixing element on the clamping bolt can be braced by the clamping device in the direction of the clamping axis against the supporting unit. A guide device may have guide elements on the fixing element and on the supporting unit that are spaced apart from the elongated hole, the fixing element being guided in the guide elements in a translational manner relative to the supporting unit.

A steering column for a motor vehicle comprises an actuating unit. A steering spindle is mounted rotatably about a longitudinal axis extending in the longitudinal direction. A supporting unit is connectable to a motor vehicle body and in which the actuating unit is held so as to be displaceable in the longitudinal direction. An energy absorption device, which is incorporated between the supporting unit and the actuating unit, has an elongate energy absorption element fastened to the actuating unit or to the supporting unit via a fastening. A deformation member, which interacts with the energy absorption element, is attached to the supporting unit or to the actuating unit. In the event of a crash with a relative displacement of actuating unit and supporting unit, the deformation member brings about an energy-absorbing plastic deformation of the energy absorption element.

Adjustment drive for a steering column, and steering column for a motor vehicle

An adjustment drive for a steering column for a motor vehicle may include a housing that is able to be connected to the steering column, in which a gear wheel that is able to be rotatingly driven by a motor is mounted in a bearing assembly so as to be rotatable about a spindle axis, and on which a threaded spindle that engages in a spindle nut is axially supported in a direction of the spindle axis. To enable less complexity in manufacturing and assembling, an energy absorbing installation is disposed between the threaded spindle and the housing. When repositioning the threaded spindle relative to the housing in the direction of the spindle axis, the energy absorbing installation is configured to absorb kinetic energy.

Steering column assembly

A collapsible steering column assembly is disclosed, which comprises a collapsible steering column shroud that supports a collapsible steering shaft. The steering shaft has a first end for connection to a steering wheel of a vehicle a mounting bracket that supports the steering column shroud relative to the vehicle. The mounting bracket comprises a fixed portion secured to a fixed part of a vehicle body and a releasable portion secured to the steering shaft. The releasable portion is also secured to the fixed portion of the mounting bracket by one or more frangible connectors. The connectors are adapted to break in the event of a crash to permit the releasable portion and the steering shaft to move relative to the fixed portion. The fixed portion includes a first anvil which has a rounded nose that faces towards the steering wheel, and a guide part which is offset from the first anvil in a direction away from the steering wheel. The guide part has a surface that is vertically offset from an adjacent surface of the fixed portion of the mounting bracket to define a space bounded by the surface of the guide part. The adjacent surface of the fixed part of the mounting bracket defines a convoluted path. An energy absorption strap has a first region fixed to at least one of the steering column shroud and the releasable portion and from which the energy absorption strap extends along a path that first loops around the first anvil and then passes along the convoluted path.
