DISPLACEABLE STEERING WHEEL SAFETY SYSTEMS AND RELATED METHODS

Apparatus, methods, and systems for repositioning a steering wheel and/or airbag cushion prior to and/or during deployment of the airbag cushion resulting from an impact event. Some embodiments may comprise a steering wheel configured to be positioned between a first, operational configuration and a second, deployed configuration at least in part by a translational movement of the steering wheel. An airbag cushion may be deployable from the steering wheel and may be configured to move from the first configuration to the second configuration before or during deployment of the airbag cushion.

CLAMPING DEVICE OF AN ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN FOR MOTOR VEHICLES
20180290680 · 2018-10-11 · ·

A clamping device may include clamping jaws that selectively clamp a steering column tube that is adjustable. A clamping pin may connect the clamping jaws. Rotation of the clamping pin in a closure direction causes the steering column tube to be clamped between the clamping jaws, and rotation of the clamping pin in an opening direction releases the clamping jaws for adjustment of the steering column tube. A damping member may be disposed on the clamping pin and connected to the clamping pin in a frictionally engaging or resilient manner. The damping member may comprise a stop tongue that protrudes radially from the clamping pin. When the clamping pin rotates in the opening direction, the stop tongue moves into abutment with the steering column tube and prevents rotation of the damping member so that the rotation of the clamping pin in the opening direction occurs counter to the friction force or resilient force and is damped.

A steering column assembly for motor vehicles, includes a steering wheel, a steering shaft housing unit including a steering shaft that is joined to the steering wheel. The steering shaft housing unit is pivotally connected to a supporting bracket about a first shaft, said supporting bracket being pivotally connected to a vehicle body about a second shaft First and/or second adjusting means adjust the angular position of the steering shaft housing unit relative to the supporting bracket and the angular position of the supporting bracket relative to the vehicle body. A first locking means locks the steering shaft housing unit in a locked position until a kinetic energy transmitted to the steering wheel is less than a threshold value, the first locking means incorporating collapsible means adapted to collapse when the kinetic energy transmitted to the steering wheel is above said threshold value, in which at least a part of the kinetic energy transmitted to the steering wheel is absorbed by the collapsible means.

Vehicle

A vehicle an instrument panel, a first actuator moving the instrument panel in a front-rear direction, a steering part provided in the instrument panel movable in the front-rear direction, a second actuator moving the steering part relatively with respect to the instrument panel, a microprocessor controlling the first actuator and the second actuator, and a memory previously storing a target instrument panel position and a target steering position in association with a driver. The microprocessor is configured to perform the controlling including determining whether the driver has started a driving operation, and when it is determined that the driver has started the driving operation, controlling the first actuator and the second actuator so that the instrument panel and the steering part are respectively located in the target instrument panel position and the target steering position stored in the memory.

The present disclosure provides a steering column of a vehicle, the steering column including: an inner tube; a fixed block disposed on the outer side of the inner tube in the axial direction of the steering column and having a plurality of fastening holes arranged in the axial direction of the steering column; an outer tube fitted on the outer side of the inner tube such that the inner tube can be moved in the axial direction of the steering column, and having distance portions disposed at both sides of the fixed block and having a first bolt hole; a movable block fastened to the fixed block and having a second bolt hole; a lever bolt disposed through the first bolt hole and the second bolt hole; and an elastic member coupled to the outer side of an end of the lever bolt and having both ends supported by the movable block and the distance portions and elastically supporting the movable block toward the fixed block.

Vehicle having a steering wheel arrangement

A vehicle has a steering wheel arrangement that includes a control unit and a steering wheel, which is arranged on a steering column, connected to the control unit, and able to be positioned from a steering position into a safety position. The steering wheel arrangement also includes an adjustment unit connected to the control unit at least for positioning the steering wheel arranged on the steering column from the steering position into the safety position, and the steering wheel arrangement is designed to vibrate on positioning from a steering position into the safety position.

Cowl cross member for vehicle

A cowl cross member for a vehicle is provided. The cowl cross member includes a cowl cross bar that has first and second ends fixed to an interior panel of a front pillar of the vehicle and is disposed in a horizontal direction at a front side of a vehicle body, with a steering column fixed thereto. A center support is vertically disposed to support a central portion of the cowl cross bar to couple the cowl cross bar at a predetermined height and is configured to adjust a length of the center support during a vehicle collision.

Displaceable steering wheel safety systems and related methods

Apparatus, methods, and systems for repositioning a steering wheel and/or airbag cushion prior to and/or during deployment of the airbag cushion resulting from an impact event. Some embodiments may comprise a steering wheel configured to be positioned between a first, operational configuration and a second, deployed configuration, wherein in the second configuration the steering wheel is positioned laterally relative to the first configuration, and wherein the steering wheel is configured to be repositioned between the first configuration and the second configuration.
