A box-in-box package includes a rigid outer box made of a foil lined paperboard having a hinged lid configured to provide access to an inner volume of the outer box, a rigid inner box made of a foil lined paperboard having a front wall, a back wall, a top wall, a bottom wall and side walls, and a single opening extending across the top wall and part way down the front wall, the opening configured to provide access to consumer goods in an inner volume of the inner box. The opening in the inner box is a cut-out in the foil lined paperboard. The package can provide an improved barrier to loss of flavor characteristics, a simplified opening arrangement which eliminates a re-sealable pull tab over the opening, better physical protection of product contained in the package, a unique method of opening and closing the package, and a less expensive manufacturing process by eliminating package materials and processing steps to assemble the package with tobacco products such as cigarettes therein.

The locking tab is connected to one of either the front wall of the body or an inner side of a front wall of the lid, and the engagement recess is located on the other one. The locking tab and the engagement recess each have a respective engagement edge for mutual engagement. The engagement edge of at least one of the locking tab and the engagement recess follows a curved line.

The pack has a lid attached to the base for rotation between open and closed positions and a lid front wall having an inner surface. A lid front wall flap is folded relative to the lid front wall. A label is attached to said section and has a portion attached to the lid so that, when the lid is rotated into an open position, the section is lifted to open the extraction opening. The lid front wall flap is shaped so that the portion of the label is attached to the inner surface of the lid front wall rather than to the lid front wall flap.

The inner package has an access opening through which consumer goods can be removed and that is covered by a reclosable flap attached to a first lid panel that is relatively movable to a second lid panel throughout rotation of the lid between lid open and closed positions. The hinged lid is connected to the reclosable flap that is arranged to cover the access opening. The reclosable flap moves relative to the access opening during movement of the hinged lid. The reclosable flap carries an indicium in a manner such that the indicium is not visible when the lid is in the closed position and such that the indicium becomes visible during movement of the hinged lid from the closed position towards the open position.

A method of packaging a bundle of tobacco industry products, wrapped in a barrier material (5), in a sheet of board material is disclosed. A packaging machine folds the sheet of board material to form a base (3) to contain a bundle, and to form a lid (2) rotatable relative to the base (3) between open and closed positions. The lid (2) has a front wall (11) and a lid front wall flap (15) having a rear face (16) that lies against an inner surface (17) of the lid front wall (11) to enable a label (9), that extends over a section of the barrier material (5) that defines an extraction opening (6), to be adhered to a front face (18) of the lid front wall flap (15) with adhesive so that the section is lifted to open the extraction opening (6) upon rotation of the lid (2) towards its open position. The method includes non-mechanically treating the front face of the lid front wall flap (15) to increase the receptivity of the lid front wall flap (15) to the adhesive used to adhere the label (9) to the front face of the lid front wall flap (15). A pack comprising a bundle of tobacco industry products wrapped in a barrier material (5) and received in a container formed from a sheet of folded board material is also disclosed.

A pack for cigarettes having an outer pack and an inner pack with a blank that surrounds a cigarette group, the inner pack having a removal opening for accessing the pack contents, and the inner pack having a closure flap fastened to it by a releasable adhesive bond and being removable for access to the removal opening or pack contents. For forming the removal opening, the blank has an opening that is closable by the closure means, the closure means having a coverage region that, with the closure means in the closed position, circumferentially surrounds the opening and is adhesively connectable to a region of the blank that surrounds the opening, and a separate blank is adhesively fastened on the closure means on the side facing the inner pack, the separate blank, with the closure means in the closed position, covering the opening and overlapping the opening on all sides.
