A medium conveying apparatus includes a driving force transmitting mechanism to transmit a driving force from a first motor to a brake roller and a pair of conveyance rollers located on the downstream side of the brake roller, and a processor to rotate the first motor forward to control so that a medium separated by the brake roller is conveyed by the pair of conveyance rollers, in a separation mode. The processor rotates the first motor backward to perform a feed operation by the brake roller and rotate the pair of conveyance rollers backward until a front edge of the medium passes through a position of the brake roller, and rotates the first motor forward to control so that the medium is conveyed by the pair of conveyance rollers after the front edge of the medium passes through the position of the brake roller, in a non-separation mode.

A medium feeding device includes a medium placing portion, a feeding roller that feeds paper, a medium movement detecting portion that is positioned on a placing region of the paper of the medium placing portion in a medium feeding direction and is capable of detecting movement of the paper being fed in a width direction intersecting the medium feeding direction, and a controller that stops feeding of the paper in a case in which a physical quantity relating to movement of paper in the width direction exceeds a predetermined threshold based on a detected result by the medium movement detecting portion.

A transport device includes: a medium support unit having a placement surface where a sheet-like medium is placed; a transport unit supplied with the medium placed at the placement surface and transporting the medium in a transport direction along a sheet surface of the medium; an ultrasonic transmitting unit provided at a part of the medium support unit and transmitting an ultrasonic wave; an ultrasonic receiving unit provided at another part of the medium support unit, and receiving the ultrasonic wave and outputting a received signal; and a floating detection unit determining whether a floating of the medium from the placement surface is present or not, based on the received signal.

There is provided a medium transporting device including: a medium placement section on which a medium is placed, a feeding roller feeding a medium from the medium placement section, a motion detection sensor detects a motion of a medium, and a controller that stops feeding of a medium based on a detection value received from the motion detection sensor, in which the motion detection sensor is a two-dimensional sensor including a light emitting section and a light receiving section and detecting a motion of a medium, the medium placement section is provided with a placement detector that acquires information relating to a presence/absence of a medium on the medium placement section, and the controller sets a state of the light emitting section to a non-light emitting state when detection information of the placement detector indicates that a medium is absent on the medium placement section.
Document feeding device
A document feeding device includes a feeding unit feeding documents from a batch of documents on a placing tray, a separation member in pressure contact with the feeding unit and separating documents one by one, a separation swinging member supporting the separation member and displaceable in a thickness direction of the batch of documents, and a movable member supported as to be displaceable with respect to the separation swing member in the thickness direction of the batch of documents, and entering a space formed between the separation member and a document.
