An adhesive bonding system joins flat webs when changing rolls of such webs. The adhesive bonding system comprises two adhesive tape boundary edges, and further comprises a top carrier layer and a bottom carrier layer, a flat connecting element that connects the two carrier layers to one another and is suitable for opening the connection under the conditions of a static or flying roll change. At least one of the boundary edges of the connecting element does not extend in a straight line, and a straight-line emphasis line is defined in relation to this boundary edge, the emphasis line of this boundary edge extends along a preferential direction, and this boundary edge has a multiplicity of regions lying on one side of its emphasis line and also a multiplicity of regions lying on the other side of its emphasis line.

Method and apparatus for a transfer tape applied to form a raised profile

Methods and apparatus to form elevated profiles in mounted turn-up transfer tapes for paper processing. In some embodiments, the transfer tape may be a combination of a tape substrate coated on one side with a web grabbing adhesive and on the other side with a mounting adhesive and an affixed cord or cordlike feature, and a release liner having a release liner substrate fully coated on a first side with a release layer and zone-coated on a second side with a release layer. In some embodiments an elevated profile, similar to that resulting from the incorporated cord or cordlike feature, may be formed during the application of the transfer tape with specialized apparatus.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PREPARING TRANSFER TAPE CONSTRUCTS FOR PAPER WEB TURN-UP PROCESSES

A cover-flap transfer tape construct and associated applicators for paper web turn-up are disclosed. A zone-coated substrate carried on a linered web includes a top-side central web-grabbing adhesive band bounded by uncoated edge zones, and underside edge mounting adhesive bands separated by an uncoated middle zone. An applicator forms an out-of-plane raised profile across a central portion of the tape while maintaining planar side bands, using cooperating forming members (convex crest and complementary cavity) and manual or motorized feed. The formed length is cut to yield a discrete tape construct with the raised profile over the central adhesive and side bands aligned with mounting adhesives. The tape construct promotes reliable interception and transfer of a moving paper web during turn-up.
