A temporary holding section winds banknotes onto an outer peripheral face of a circular, cylinder-shaped and rotatably supported drum to retain the banknotes between a facing portion and the outer peripheral face. More specifically, the temporary holding section uses an upper side tape and a lower side tape, that respectively have one end wound onto the drum, such that accompanying rotation of the drum, the supplied banknotes are sandwiched between the tapes and the outer peripheral face.
