METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR REDUCING BACTERIAL LOAD IN TOBACCO
Methods and compositions are provided for expressing an endolysin in a bacterium or in a tobacco plant or plant part. Expression of the endolysin can reduce the total bacterial load on the plant and in tobacco products produced from the plant. Accordingly, the level of tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNA) in a cured tobacco product can be decreased when the tobacco leaves used in the product were harvested from a plant expressing endolysin or when bacteria modified to express endolysin is used to treat the tobacco. Thus, bacteria and tobacco plants and plant parts are provided that express an endolysin. Further provided are methods for decreasing the microbial load on a tobacco plant and in a tobacco product by applying a solution of bacteria modified to express an endolysin or by modifying a tobacco plant to express endolysins. Smokeless tobacco products including such modified tobacco plant parts are also provided.
HIGH-PRESSURE COLD PASTEURIZATION OF TOBACCO MATERIAL
A tobacco material having at least about 40% water based on the total weight, and having a storage stability of at least about 25 days is provided herein, wherein the storage stability is defined as an aerobic plate count below about 3,000,000 CFU/g. A method of treating a tobacco material to enhance storage stability is also provided herein, the method including receiving a tobacco material having at least about 40% water based on the total weight and subjecting the tobacco material to a process pressure of at least about 30,000 psi to form a high pressure processed tobacco material, wherein the high pressure processed tobacco material has a storage stability of at least about 25 days, and wherein the storage stability is defined as an aerobic plate count below about 3,000,000 CFU/g.
STABILIZATION METHODS FOR TOBACCO AND TOBACCO PRODUCTS
A stabilizing process for tobacco and tobacco products includes sterilizing the tobacco by applying an electron beam treatment to the tobacco. The process may also include treating the tobacco. The treating the tobacco includes pre-conditioning the tobacco, pasteurizing the tobacco, curing the tobacco, fermenting the tobacco, or combinations thereof. The method may also include forming a smokeless tobacco product containing the tobacco.
Oral product with cellulosic flavor stabilizer
The disclosure provides products configured for oral use, the products including a mixture of a particulate filler component, a cellulose derivative, water, and one or more flavoring agents. The products exhibit greater stability over time with respect to flavor component concentration than comparative products which do not contain a cellulose derivative.
System comprising a machine for preparing a smokable product from a portion capsule
A machine for preparing a smokeable product, the machine comprising a housing, a capsule receiving compartment within the housing, the capsule receiving compartment configured to receive a capsule used to prepare the smokeable product, a rolling medium holder movably coupled to the housing, the rolling medium holder configured to receive at least one rolling medium and move between an open position and a closed position, and a tamper coupled to the housing and configured to facilitate movement of smokeable material from the capsule into a rolling medium.
White snus with tobacco taste
A white snus with sachet material, preferably a pouch, which is not moisturized during the manufacturing process, includes a filler material, a nicotine source and flavorings, wherein the flavorings include tobacco particles having a size (sD.sub.50 laser diffraction)30 m adhered on an inert carrier. A method for manufacturing a white snus includes the steps of providing filler material, providing a nicotine source, providing tobacco particles having a size (sD.sub.50 laser diffraction)30 m adhered on a carrier, providing further flavorings, optionally providing further ingredients and mechanically mixing the ingredients. The carrier is inert with respect to the surrounding environment, wherein the carrier itself remains chemically unchanged when contacted by other components of the snus, wherein the nicotine source does not contain tobacco.
Consumable with a drying agent for an aerosol provision system and the aerosol provision system therefor
A consumable for an aerosol provision system comprising at least one substrate material in proximity to at least one drying agent. The drying agent preferably includes a sorbent, e.g., a desiccant, a wicking material or a mixture thereof. Also provided is a pod for an aerosol provision system where the pod contains the consumable and the consumable is configured to receive an aerosol, and use of a drying agent to increase consistency or yield of volatile compound delivery from a substrate material in an aerosol provision system.
Tobacco having reduced tobacco specific nitrosamine content
The present document generally relates to methods and materials involved in producing tobacco or smokeless tobacco product comprising chlorate. For example, chlorate can be used to reduce tobacco specific nitrosamine content in tobacco or smokeless tobacco products.
Materials for extracting toxins from tobacco
Compositions configured to interact with organic molecules, and related articles and methods, are generally described.
